This song is about unrequited love. He loves her and he's told her everything about himself. It wasn't hard for him to feel this way about her, but she breaks it off. But she comes back, more than once it seems, and for awhile he feels like he used to. So basically she's the "wildcard" because he never knows what her next move is, but he loves her enough to want to wait for her even though he knows she'll never love him the way he loves her.

I could be wrong.

I feel almost like she deserted him and didn't come back...he says how he would have done anything to keep her love and she threw it away...and how he wants a second chance. I went through this except I'm a girl n my ex just deserted. I fell for him so easily. I trusted him with everything I had and one day he simply said his love had changed.
