Rugs From Me To You Lyrics
To pay or not to pay, that is the question.
It refused to stay, as it all turned gray, William Shakespeare's receding hair.
Please excuse the pun: it's hair today, gone tomorrow.
So be thankful for what precious locks you have.
To pay or not to pay, that is the question,
and by the way, I just gotta say,
thank the Lord I'm not going bald.
And if I may quip, my curls and I are just like heaven
'cause rest assured, they'll be no barding there.
But should my head get bare like Friar Tuck or Chase the Swallow,
it makes me smile 'cause I know just what I do.
Yeah, if I had more wigs than I knew what to do with,
I'd open a second-hand store,
and if you ever went bald, you'd recall it,
'cause I'd cleverly call it, "Rugs From Me To You."

I love this song! It's so cute, and I love how there are so many puns in it.
Only thing is, I think that it should be "toupee" not "to pay" - a toupee is a hairpiece, and another word for that is a "rug", which explains the title, and the name of his store.
Anyway, I think that this song is definitely about appreciating what you have:
"It's hair today, gone tomorrow" "So be thankful for what precious locks you have"
I think that those two parts especially convey the messagae that Adam is trying to get across. Love this song!
The whole song is a pun...about hair so it's both 'to pay' and 'toupee'
Adam Young is such a genius
So cute and pure, can't stop smiling!
This song is about appreciating what u have, and really enjoying it. To emphasize the enjoyment thing, he made the song fun and catchy and very "punny" hehehehe also he loves his hair
Adam is talking about being old and finally saying goodbye to the things that once made us feel we're young. So he used the hair as a pun. (When we get old, our hair turns white and eventually fall.) But at the same time, he says that it shouldn't end there if we don't want it after all. That is why he used the word "toupee" in the following verse. Toupee is a wig. As the person in the song is getting bald due to old age, toupee could mean a second chance/continuation of the story. So what the song advocates is to appreciate whatever we have and enjoy when we still have time; AND if God allows us, let us face our mistakes in the past and make things right now. The closing part says that if we have something to share, let others learn from us - from our mistakes.
I just gotta add: "To pay or not to pay" and "toupee or not toupee" because it gives space for a chance to change or not to change. It's like "what? are you fucking making things right or not?" It's all about enjoying what we have, making wrong things right, and be willing to do it.
