Is Love Forever? Lyrics

I grew up in a supermarket
It was there they told me
If they can't find me they won't leave without me
Now or ever
All i need's a word to get me started
All i need's a look
Some ex-girlfriend
Call her Heather
Whispers to me
"Is love forever?"
Is love forever?

Are you quite certain love?
(When I'm older start to wonder was that love or instinct working?
Have I even felt it ever?
What's the object?
Is love forever?)

I really like this song a lot! Here are the correct lyrics directly from the CD case itself: I grew up in a supermarket it was where they told me If they can't find me they won't leave without me now or ever All I need's a word to get me started, all I need's a look Some ex-girlfriend, call her Heather Whispers to me 'Is love forever?' Is love forever? Is love? Are you quite certain love? When I'm older start to wonder was that love or instinct working? Have I even felt it ever? What's the object? Is love forever? You can hear the last four lines while "Are you quite certain love?" is repeated over and over.

Lyric Correction

Oops, typo in the first line, sorry. I grew up in a supermarket it was there they told me

I think the supermarket is a world of loving women or attractive women or both. "They won't leave without me" should be reassuring but to me evokes the feeling of panic and insecurity when you were a child and lost sight of your mom. I think I'm off on that since the supermarket of loving women who really won't leave him. "All I need's a word to get me started" is about how easily attraction can be bred by something as simple as a look, a smile, a word and how easy it is to start to fall in love. The rest is questioning the nature of love qnd lust, pretty straightforward to me.

This also makes me think of Lost In A Supermarket by Clash but that's probably not relevant.

And I guess there's an answer in there for me. Unconditional love, like the kind you have for a child or feel for your family really is forever.

I agree with the other comments. Family won't leave, because the love is unconditional. They will always be there- "If they can't find me they won't leave without me now or ever."

However the song also evokes love within romantic relationships as well. His ex-girlfriend asks "Is love forever?" The song plays with the idea that it is and isn't at the same time.

I have often pondered this myself when thinking back on a failed relationship. I have a hard time believing love really completely dies with the demise of a relationship.
