I believe this song is about two lovers, one with insomnia and one who doesn't. I think that its about how one is watching the other sleep and how they long to sleep but they can't. they just watch the other drift away into sleep, unable to join them.

it is such a sad sounding song with such a simple and snarky meaning. i still cry everytime.
