Damn Dog Lyrics

I can't believe that I could believe that.
And I can't believe you left me for dead man.

Cause I called you my friend.
and My best friend at that.
and I know that I'm loud man
But give me another chance.
I promise to keep this damn snout shut for you.
But only for you
Cause I love you

and I should've seen the boredom in your eyes.
You dropped me off and you said your goodbyes.

Cause dad I called you my friend.
and My best friend at that.
and I know that I'm loud man
But give me another chance.
I promise to keep this damn snout shut for you.
But only for you
Cause loved you

and I saw this man on the side of the road.
He said take my hand, that man threw me a bone.

Cause one man's trash is another man's treasure.
The way that he made me feel was better than ever.
He told me he loved me.
He meant it forever.

and I love him cause he loves me.
And all I've ever wanted was to feel love.

I don't completely understand this, but then again Christofer's pretty deep. Obviously it's about his dad and their relationship, or possibly a lack thereof, but other than that the meaning is kind of foggy.

I actually heard that this song is about Chris' Dad's relationship with his father. In interviews, Chris says he loves his dad.

But you could still be right, since Chris dropped out of school during his early music career, angering and saddening his dad who made him leave the house for a while, but he did eventually let him come back home.

I was very intrigued by this song and studied it in depth, tossed around numerous possibilities, but kept coming back to a child and his father having a rocky relationship. I believe it was abusive, considering that the child needed to keep his "snout" shut. I also believe he got his dad in trouble by saying this secret, and as the song says, is pleading for another chance. I don't know if this song directly correlates to Drew's life, but it could, considering he has never had a story book relationship with his father, and credits songs to parental and marital problems. Moving on in the song, I believe that the person on the side of the road was like a savior, someone who truly loved him and gave him what he needed, all he wanted, which was love. This could be personification though. I briefly thought that maybe this person was drugs, maybe ecstacy. Ecstacy is metioned in Time Travel, and has Drew has been known to do drugs. Either way, I felt that overall the song was a tribute to two relationships the narrator has had, one his father, and the other a loving savior, whether it be drugs, a partner, or a new father figure that took him in when his dad got bored of him and disowned him ("I should've seen the boredom in your eyes", and "I can't believe you left me for dead man" indicate that the narrator's father got bored of him, or bored of his son's betrayal because he is a "loud man" and left him after simple goodbyes).

My Interpretation

i think its out his rocky relationship w/ his dad (obviously), & i all i really know about his parents is that theyre divorced or something i think, so maybe the man on the side of the road is his step dad or an uncle or someone who played a father-like role?

I don't get how anyone can not love Christofer. I don't even know him and I love him for his music and how deep and touching his songs are. I truly feel bad for him, and I feel his pain because my dad and I have a pretty bad relationship. Christofer is far from a dog. He is a prince in my eyes. I love him <<3

ur all wrong. he said it is about his friend getting disowned by his dad. not his, cristofer has an OK relationship w/ his dad. not bad enough to write this song about himself tho.

This makes the most sense. Thanks :)

I always thought his 'dad' was symbolism for god, but thats they way it comes off to me because we all know Christofer is pretty damn deep when it comes to lyrics

Song Meaning
Cover art for Damn Dog lyrics by Never Shout Never

I thought it was a song, written from a dog's perspective. Where the dog and the "dad" (owner of dog) had lots of fun, playing around, where the dog didn't notice they were moving apart, he "Should've seen the boredem in your[his] eyes"

========= and I know that I'm loud man But give me another chance. I promise to keep this damn snout shut for you.

The dog is a "Loud man", he promises he'll be quiet if he gets to stay with his Dad, but his Dad disowns him, where the dog is found by another person who throws him a bone, and they love each other and everything ends happily.

That's one interpretation of it.

So heres how I see this song, Christofer is singing about his dad and their rocky relationship throughout this song. Then at the bridge and ending hes talking about finding Jesus in the least likely of places, "He told me he loved me, he meant it forever" being the eternal love of Jesus. So out of this borken relationship he was able to find true love.
