Oh Heartland, Up Yours! Lyrics

The stars collected
Each world accounted for
Freed all the children
Seems there is nothing more

If I only had a rowboat I would row it up to heaven
And if heaven would not have me I would take the other option
I will seek out my own satisfaction

From the wight lying in the barrow
To the priest with his broken arrows
There's a method to the madness
They will feign an expression of sadness
A concatenation of locusts
And the farmers are losing their focus
On the pitch of the Avenroe grasses
I will sing sing sing to the masses

Oh Heartland, up yours

The hollow voice of
The fourteenth century
Too much assumption to be taken seriously
Oh you wrote me like a Disney kid in cutoffs and a beater
With a feathered fringe, it doesn't suit a simoniac breeder
Doesn't work doesn't fly doesn't handle

From the wight lying in the barrow
To the priest with his broken arrows
There's a method to the madness
They will feign an expression of sadness
A concatenation of locusts
And the farmers are losing their focus
On the pitch of the Avenroe grasses
I will sing sing sing to the masses

Oh Heartland, up yours

(My home, my homeland, my homeland)

I will not sing your praises
I will not sing your praises here
I will not sing your praises
I will not sing your praises here
I will not sing your praises
I will not sing your praises
I will not sing your praises
I will not sing your praises here

It's actually a "concatenation" of locusts, not a "called cattle-nation." ;)

Haha thanks. I had no idea what he was saying, and I just guessed something that sounded like it and sounded like it had something to do with farmers...

Some corrections based on the lyrics that came with the cd:

"From the wight lying in the barrow"

"Oh, you wrote me like a Disney kid"

"it doesn't suit a simoniac breeder"

and the violent lent part should be "My homeland"

Lyric Correction

Owens lyrics are so poetic, with every line rich in meaning. I think this particular song has an attitude of separatism. A kind of disenchantment with some ones circumstances in their immediate environment - necessitating a change or revolt.

Also it is "The hollow voice of OUR 14th century" according to the lyrics in the booklet. And it made me wonder to which one he/Lewis refers... Europe's, Heartland's? :D

This song is going in so many directions, but I love it. Basically it's about being yourself, doing your own thing and not worrying about what the world wants...rejecting culture and living life your way.

"if I only had a rowboat I would row it up to heaven" - reminded me of Pyramid Song (and we all went to heaven in a little rowboat)

I think those both might be references to the Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat from Guys and Dolls ('I dreamed last night I was on a boat to heaven...'). That's what leapt to mind anyway
