A Man of Science Lyrics
so calculated, the words that come. ah!
but the glorious shine of a polished
tongue.
have you been up practicing all night long?
your mouth forms chords
and arpeggiates.
it sounds so sweet but then nauseates.
have you been up
sweating this all night long?
at the crack of dawn your up again to show the
world just where you stand
you dressed in your good suit today.
polished
your shoes for such an occasion...
pressed your shirt and slicked your
hair
straightened that tie now get out there!get out there!
the tile is
burning through your rubber soles
the sweat is beading and forming tiny
pools
youve been pacing and youre scaring the shit out of your kids
theres
white building up in the corners of your mouth
the neighbor kids are laughing
and pointing at your house
your wifes ashamed. she's pulling all the blinds.
you'd think you'd get the picture after time after time after time.
your roof
is slowly growing weak sagging stretching like your speech...
oh my science!
hes on the roof again!
citing scripture and throwing up his hands
they
said "i dont think hes coming down"
"does he think hes conducting some great
orchestra? cause hes waving his hands and i cant help singing:
oh my
science! hes on the roof again!citing scripture and throwing up his hands.dear
science hes on the roof again!citing scripture and
throwing up his
hands."
hes not missing a beat hitting every note
not discouraged by their
laughter
hes not missing a beat hitting every note
not discouraged by sharp
fingers
you dressed in your good suit today
polished your shoes oh what a
waste
pressed your shirt and slicked your hair
and all you got were empty
stares...

I don't honestly think that it's a critique on religion for two reasons
1) on adam fissures myspace he claims he's an agnostic, not atheist. Meaning he is unsure if there is a god or he beleives in god but not sure which one.
2) It seems to be a rant on bible thumpers (mainly bible thumpers are christians, being one i've seen plenty unfortunately), so not all religions just one. Plus religions like Hinduism and Judaism don't generally go around trying to convince people to join their religions, it's commonplace in christianity.
With that being said, this is probably a critique on bible thumpers who get on their soap boxes, screaming and yelling at everyone who isn't part of his religion.
well, in the lyrics to Eclipsical;

First premise makes him a deist, second either Judeo-Christian or Muslim, I'm betting the first.

It could also just be a song, I mean sayer of the law just seems like conceptual song, like its just a song with a story. I don't know, I appreciate when bands release the meanings of their songs (unless they want to hear the fans interpretations like The Mars Volta).

You left out an important part of that lyric.

"Does anyone believe in god? And can you feel the flames of hell? Cause I do. OR MAYBE I DON'T AT ALL. It's just really fucking hot in here."

Agnosticism.
Agnosticism.
It means that these guys are the one of the lost original bands to come around in years and everyone should listen to them.
That's what it means....
I have a feeling it's seeing the world with Atheism/Theism flipped.
"Oh my science! He's on the roof again! Citing scripture."
I might be wrong but the whole song makes sense with this kinda look
or it could be focusing on the people that play the evangelist and their role in today's society if there were no organized religion. since there would be no churches, the place to "soap-box" would be the roof of his own home. science would have taken the place of God, and scripture would just be modern science. with all the controversy these days surrounding religion AND science (separately), i interpret this as justifying the necessity in our society for religious "fanatics", else persecutors would have only science to turn to,judge, and mock. i could be wrong, but this is MY interpretation.
Some of the lyrics aren't right, or are missing things... here's what I got:
