I think it is pretty obvious that the song is about someone who has hit a rough patch in their life and become depressed but I think the line "no matter where you sit the skyline looks the same" is to say that if you can change your perspective of how you look at things then you can become happy again.
This is how you feel after deployment... This whole album got me through Afghanistan, and now its getting me through life afterwards.
