my general assumption about this song is that it is about a lover. you run away because everybody hates you, but of course there is always that one person you will miss. your love. \n\nThe last verse is an all-time favorite. "I hope you see forever as more than just mistakes". When he wants his lover to look back on life with him, he hopes they see them as more than just the mistakes, more than just the bad in them. \n\nThe singer is heartbroken, of course. I feel for them.
