Sugar Pill Lyrics

Come, come like sugar my love
Until the bitter taste is gone
These images then burn my eyes
Like the thumbprints of the sun
Come, come everything to please me
Candy canes on parade
Lay me in the sun till every trace is gone
I am bleached away, bleached away
Oh sugar pill I believe you
Oh sugar pill I wanna eat you up up up up
Now I am blissed out
I have kaleidoscope eyes
I'm light as cotton
I am wide as the sky
This is where my thoughts come to die
And I am happy
Oh sugar pill I believe you
Oh sugar pill I wanna eat you up up up up.

Such a great song, first off.

The deep, longing, aching vocals are perfect. The drums add a necessary rythm throughout and the keyboard is used effectively.

The lyrics seem to imply the songwriter is depressed and is possibly regretting or hopelessly wishing something. I think, much like what Zani posted before me, whatever Sam says is the truth, since he wrote the goddamn song. I just think it's about a guy who treats this person (whether they be male or female) as a ways of escape and a way to forget about the hardships and depression that life may dump on us, but in the end he knows he'll always feel unfulfilled and empty when the time they spend with that person is over with.

A great song with an incredibly realistic and true-to-heart meaning.

This song gets stuck in my head every day.

Get it on your mp3 player go outside on a sunny day play that shit walk around with repeat on (preferably in neighborhoods so you can see people and make up stories in your head about them based on the song. Sounds strange but it's pretty fun) be like Charlie sheen and just fucking WIN the day

Follows in the great musical tradition of using food metaphors for sex!

Sam talked about this song in an interview: "...feeling like this whole life, whole lifestyle is just about distracting yourself. It's just about keeping your thoughts off of anything important because those important thoughts might be troublesome. And so sugar pill - it's a meaningless way of making you feel better. Just surrounding yourself with things that preoccupy your mind and entertain you, so you don't have to actually think about anything that could be important cause it might bother you to think about that."
