Silver Soul Lyrics

We gather matters of the heart
So we can act a fool
It's incomplete without you
The sliver soul is running through
It's a vision
complete illusion yea

The needle on the spinning wheel
Collecting silver coil
It gathers heat without you
Whether or not you're turned from it,
It's a quick turn
to let us in yea

It is happening again
It is happening again
It is happening again
It is happening again

The bodies lying in the sand
They're moving in the dark
It is so quick to let us in
Feel it moving through our skin
It's a sickness, infinite quickness yea

It is happening again
It is happening again
It is happening again
It is happening again

I think this song is about someone falling in love once more "it has happened again" and the nostalgic feelings this person has.

not really an interpretation of the song, but relevant info.

The ancient greek philosopher plato, in his work the republic, argues that three components comprise the human soul-- "the rational" which desires wisdom, "the spirited" which seeks honor and triumph, and "the appetitive" which pursues "base" desires such as sex and food.

Plato divided humanity into classes based on which component of their soul (the rational, spirited, or appetitive) was most dominant.

-People who are predominantly rational, who seek wisdom and truth, he called "gold souls" and Plato believed this was the class of people most suited to rule and govern-- as they would use their rational tendencies to make wise decisions for the benefit of all people.

-Those people who are driven primarily by appetite Plato called "bronze souls," and these people (the majority of society) are those who form the bottom layer, workers and farmers who are satisfied as long as their basic needs are met.

-People who are driven by spirit Plato called..... "Silver souls." He envisioned the silver souls as a noble warrior class of honor and courage. A silver soul would fight with honor to defend the people of his society.

I wonder if Victoria and Alex have read Plato, or if this is coincidental. Either way its interesting. Perhaps the song is somehow about courage or honor? Being a "silver soul" and fighting for something, a relationship or person perhaps?

IMO, this song is about falling in love with someone new. It is about two people coming together, with all their baggage, and not letting it bring their relationship down. It's someone who has been in love before, and is not letting the hurt get in the way. Hence "it's happening again..."

From my own interpretation, this song is about how susceptible people are to falling in love. It also relates to how naive human beings can be, where the slightest interaction with another can lead us into a never ending chain of love. Especially lyrics such as "It's a vision, complete illusion" justifies my claim, since love is something we all can see "vision", yet something we all can't fully grasp - "illusion". The idea of the never-ending cycle comes from the chorus, as we forget someone, before we know it, "It is happening again".

My Interpretation

Interesting, and I like the song but I think you're way off in many ways. Nobody sees love so it's not a "vision." They feel love. (They see lust). The illusion is when lust is confused with love. There is NO mistaking love. Love is seldom a 'never ending cycle." Love is those couples you see who have been with each other for decades...through youth and good times (times of discovery) thur middle age; job loss; declining looks; times of boredom; to old age and declining health. I really like this band...the more I listen, the more I have reason...

am i wrong to think this song is about heroin and its use

In my opinion, silver soul is the story of a how a young girl loses her lover, then starts to comminicate with him, and then ills herself to be with him.

"We gather matters of the heart So we can act a fool" She copes by self medicating (possibly alcohol) and is trying to get back her old life, where she was young and carefree

"It's incomplete without you" She cant get back to herself. She feels incomplete without him in her life

"The sliver soul is running through It's a vision complete illusion yea" Here, it seems like she has an encounter with her lover. However, she is in denial and trys to explain its just an illusion

"The needle on the spinning wheel Collecting silver coil It gathers heat without you Whether or not you're turned from it," It sounds like right here, she is trying to communicate with her lover by playing music that the two enjoyed together. Even though he isn't physically there she feels the connection with him( it gathers heat)

It's a quick turn to let us in yea" Here she is letting go of her skepticism and quickly lets his presence in

"It is happening again It is happening again It is happening again It is happening again" This either means the two are just talking and falling back in love, or they are making love

"The bodies lying in the sand They're moving in the dark" He convinced her to kill herself so the two could be together forever. The two haunt the night together

"It is so quick to let us in Feel it moving through our skin" The two make love while they are dead, and though they are dead, their love allows them to feel alive

"It's a sickness, a manic weakness yea" Here it sounds like others view her as crazy, even mentally ill for doing what she did

Thats just my opinion. I also think teen dream tells their story. They start out by falling in love(10 mile stereo). Then he cheats on her (Zebra) and she doesnt forgive him at first (Norway), but they get back together. However, things aren't the same (used to be, better times). He then contracts a terminal illness and she realizes she still loves him and always had (real love) and she decides to take care of him during his final years (Take care). He then dies and she initially try's to forget about him (Walk in the park), but then she realizes there is in afterlife (walk in the park, silver soul) and ends up killing herself to be with him. Think about it people...

This falls into the "love song" / "heroin song" category. He's falling in love, but it's like an addiction and he's afraid--hence the heroin imagery ("needle", "we feel it move through our skin", "it's a sickness".)

Don't get me wrong--it's a sublimely beautiful song. But definitely about heroin.

By the way, the sound and the concept are similar to the ending of Spiritualized's "Cop Shoot Cop" and "Spread Your Wings."

My Interpretation

Honestly, I'll be surprised if there are any bands that produce better work this year. This album is that good.

What I hear is a passionate love affair. These are people that are committed to others but can't stay away from each other. They know they shouldn't because "it's a vision, complete illusion", but what keeps them coming back is that "it's a sickness, infinite quickness."
