The Longer I Run Lyrics
when my blood runs warm with the warm red wine
I miss the life that I left behind
but when I hear the sound of the blackbirds cry
I know I left in the nick of time
well this road I'm on's gonna turn to sand
and leave me lost in a far off land
so let me ride the wind til I don't look back
forget the life that I almost had
if I wonder til I die
may I know who's hand I'm in
if my home I'll never find
and let me live again
the longer I run
then the less that I find
sellin my soul for a nickel and dime
breakin my heart to keep singing these rhymes
and losin again
the longer I run
then the less that I find
sellin my soul for a nickel and dime
breakin my heart to keep singing these rhymes
and losin again
tell my brother please not to look for me
I ain't the man that I used to be
but if my savior comes could you let him know
I've gone away for to save my soul
if I wonder til I die
may I know who's hand I'm in
if my home I'll never find
and let me live again
the longer I run
then the less that I find
sellin my soul for a nickel and dime
breakin my heart to keep singing these rhymes
and losin again
the longer I run
then the less that I find
sellin my soul for a nickel and dime
breakin my heart to keep singing these rhymes
and losin again
losing again
the longer I run
I'm losing again

This song is about running away from one's problems and the regret which accompanies that. He is seeking solace in the act of leaving, expecting to find something to replace what he lost, something that he misses dearly. Yet, the singer cannot manage to find that something and is instead only met by disappointment. He begins to doubt if he made the right decision, even if it wasn't his to make. The chorus echoes these doubts as he ponders what could have been.
I think this song could be about getting older and realizing all the dreams you chase may not come true after all, losing yourself and almost giving up.
It's a gorgeous song and really enjoy listening to Peter's music.
I may be wrong but I think this song is about getting old(the longer I run) and realizing that many of the things you use to value like money(then the less that I find selling my soul for a nickel and dime) really isn't worth it. And that has changed you(I ain't the man that I used to be) for the better(I've gone away for to save my soul)
ok, this may be a far stretch, but i think this song could be applied to the life of a soldier in present day with the war. The way i see this song, it's from the perspective of a soldier looking back on the life he lived before he went off to war and thinking about the life he could have lived and even the things that he's missing out on now.
"well this road I'm on's gonna turn to sand and leave me lost in a far off land so let me ride the wind til I don't look back forget the life that I almost had"
this verse, especially is what made me really think that this song could possibly be about being in Iraq or something along those lines. beautiful song, i'm curious what the song is really about. the lyrics are really great and have great imagery.
