can't believe i'm the first to post on this beautiful song! i think he is talking about a tough breakup. he was the one who got dumped and it took him a while to get over it because the girl was someone he truly loved. with time, he eventually is able to move on...but soon enough the girl is back in his life asking to get back together. he's torn about what he should do. he still loves her so much, but at the same time, he thinks it was unfair of her to leave him, break his heart, and then expect him to return.
