All We Ever Do Is Say Goodbye

This is a great song. It's one that everyone who's had a first love can relate to. It's always hard to let go of that person since he or she was the one to give you that love that everyone wants and needs. So towards the end of it there are always multiple breakups and makeups because its so hard to let each other go. In John's mindset, all you ever do is say goodbye to each other, trying not to let it all go at once, waiting to see who will be the one to finally end it all. This song is seriously a great interpretation of those situations.

Obviously about being at that moment when you realize it's time to move on. Almost like a revalation but you know it's not what you want, so it's a little sad.

i dont know why maybe its the repetitive chorus but this song reminds me so much of the beatles -across the universe.

sad song about not getting the person u know is wrong for u out of ur system, making urself a glutton for punishment cuz u keep going back dispite knowing its going to end with u broken hearted again. we've all been there.

This song is so sad, but its like that turning point in when you realize that its not worth it to keep trying to love somebody. You have to gain acceptance and move on.

I've been listening to Battle Studies a lot recently, obviously because it's an incredible record but also because every song on there seems to hit the spot right now. I broke up with my girlfriend 3 weeks ago, and recently she's come back and wanted to 'try again'. I remembering listening to this song when she left mine a few nights ago and realising that this wasn't what I wanted at all:

'You say you want to try again, But i've tried everything but giving in. Why you want to break my heart again, Why am I gonna let you try?'

These words hit me really hard: in the past, i'd have let someone back in my life, but this time round i've realised that I don't want to get back with someone who wants to 'break my heart again'. I guess generally this song is about moving on from someone who isn't good for you: as much as you want them back and they want the same thing, you take the upper hand and realise that all you'll be doing is 'saying goodbye' again. Beautiful song, like the album!

There is an amazing simplicity to most of johns songs that are able to convey a wide range of emotion and explain so much, while saying very little.

Unfortunatly I have to wait another 23 friggen days until I hear this! But you bet you'll hear from me Dec. 26! I love John Clayton Mayer!!!!

Okay,Okay so maybe I'm a month and some odd days late, but I'm here, Jeez! :P This song is really good and I can completely relate to the lyrics. His vocals kill, too! Ahhhh, all is right in the world. So...see you guys in ATL on 3/17? haha
