Really heart-wrenching. I'm not sure of what exactly it means, but it resonates with helplessness; being pushed around like the rocks by the currents. The whole song is about being pushed around and down (I love how he draws that word out in emphasis). Wing's won't help you up, down fills the gravity, gravity's pound. It could be about trying to pick yourself up from a horrible incident, but it seems like all of these elements drag you back down into your misery.

It's as catchy as a pop tune, but as mellow as the Bon Iver I've always loved. So beautiful, everything about the echoing voices flowing together... it makes my heart twinge.

yeah new moon doesn't have the cred to put all these great bands on it's soundtrack, but i guess it's worse that these bands agreed to it. eitherway, this song is great, except for the fact all twihards will probably agree. to me, it sounds like "share, scream your worry" instead of shale. wtf is shale

this is a really great song, i makes me want to cry every time i hear it. i wish i wasn't on the new moon soundtrack

I love this song. I think the idea of people liking this song less just because it's on the New Moon soundtrack is just as bad as people liking this song only because of it being on the soundtrack. I know the Twi-haters would be happier if they had music that was all Jonas Brothers or something...but I respect the fact that they have put thought into the songs they include and actually have quality soundtracks. Some artists I weren't familiar with and I ended up liking them so much I bought and enjoy previous albums. St. Vincent being one example.

But this song is so beautiful...has a real longing feeling to it. I agree with a previous poster about it being about being pushed around and down. When one feels that way...sometimes its hard to fight back against something stronger because you feel if you muster enought hope/energy to try and still fail you'll just fall further down into sadness. Don't know if that makes sense.

I wish Bon Iver & St. Vincent would collaborate on and entire album of new music. Their covers on youtube such as Neil Young's Harvest Moon are excellent.

I'm surprised no one has commented....maybe because it's on the new moon soundtrack ha. But I really love this song, that sound just captures some things very well.

This song is haunting. I find myself humming it during the day. In the beginning of the song you can hear that low whining of the guitar... it always makes me have a sad feeling when i hear it. I enjoy listening to this song very much. It worked well in New Moon.

Shale is, actually, a word; it's a type of rock. But I believe you are more correct that it is "share, scream your worry for what you won't ever find." I also think it's "Down, sit around, folds in the gown," and at the very end it's "We'll" not "Will"

This is such an amazing song. It makes me feel sick that many Twilight fans don't appreciate this soundtrack. What beautiful, beautiful music. Justin did it again.

i agree this song is beautiful, i love bon iver. and i also love the twilight books. this song actually goes perfectly for new moon. great soundtrack, great movie, amazing song.
