High Horses Lyrics
there's a light inside us all
it only shines as bright as we are
and you've fallen down so low
I'm really worried for you, I'm really worried
and even on our worst days
we were never quite like this
we've gone as far as we can go
without crashing
at the heart in every fool
is the hope you're stupid too
and there's this lingering, this lingering feeling
that I'm missing something, I feel like I'm missing something
and even at your worst babe
you were never as bad as this
you've gone as far as you can go
without dying
it only shines as bright as we are
and you've fallen down so low
I'm really worried for you, I'm really worried
we were never quite like this
we've gone as far as we can go
without crashing
is the hope you're stupid too
and there's this lingering, this lingering feeling
that I'm missing something, I feel like I'm missing something
you were never as bad as this
you've gone as far as you can go
without dying

I was at the Swell Season show in Baltimore last night (just amazing..) And they closed with this song.
Glenn said that this song was about being in love with a person who was getting hung up on morality and getting so caught stuck on their moral standards that they shut out the person who loves them.
haha I've come to appreciate the multiple meanings in Swell Season songs. Glen and Marketa are such talented song writers.
In an interview that Glen recently did in Australia he said that this song is written about someone he knew who had an eating disorder and wasn't eating. It sounds amazing live!
Does anyone know what Glen's screaming at the end? I can hear High Horses occasionally, but it sounds like there's more.
He is saying "come down off your high horses, let me in, lets begin"
He is saying "come down off your high horses, let me in, lets begin"
I couldn't understand this part until I saw it live. In the performance the band played quietly and the audience sang the "la la la" part while Glen shouted "come down off your high horses, let me in, lets begin" from the front of the stage without his microphone! It was amazing.

I think I hear something like "get down from your high horses", but that could just be me hearing things that make some sort of sense to me.
yeah Glen's shouting "come down off your high horses"
