4 Chords of the Apocalypse Lyrics
I hear it in your silence.
When you don't speak.
Well, what's funny then.
Isn't funny anymore.
I can hear it in your voice.
There's always a catch.
We're going nowhere.
And we're going there fast.
Anything to watch?
While we are waiting.
For this apocalypse.
What more is there to do?
It's to be important.
But so close to being despised.
It's more important to be nice, I guess than being wise.
I'll take your shoppin'.
I'd takin you dancin', too.
I'd take you out.
All the thing you want to do.
And I'll give you diamonds.
And I'll you space.
So be with anyone you want.
It's alright with me.
All time is over.
Don't you know that if a time warp was open, I'd stand right in my place?
The war is over.
I hear it in your silence.
When you don't speak.
There is a quiet crying rage burning inside of you so deep.
I'd give you anything, but I'd give you problems.
So be with anyone you want.
It's all right with me.
I hear it in your voice.
Can see it in your lips.
There's always a catch.
I guess that's alright with me.
No ones around.
The map says you're here.
Now I can hear loneliness,
Screaming in my ear.
All time is over.
Don't you know that if a time warp was open, I'd stand right in my place?
The war ain't over yet, no!
This war ain't over yet!
We are not (?).
All time is over!
When you don't speak.
Well, what's funny then.
Isn't funny anymore.
I can hear it in your voice.

This, out of the blue, left and blue and glass are my favorite on the album. This song is truly amazing!! the chorus couldn't be timed better!
Great song!
It must have taken a long time to write this. There are so many memorable quotes here.
It's more important to be nice, I guess than being wise. and the last lines: Being nice is only hard, when others aren't.
It's hard to hear whether he's saying: All time is over, or Our time is over.
This is one of the best songs of the album, along with Out Of The Blue.
It screams Sam Cooke.
That's so true. A very tangible old school gospel/soul feel. Can't to see this live!

I'm so in love with this song at the moment. It's incredibly beautiful. I love the chorus, Julian's voice and the way the song evolves... Pure beauty! And towards the end, when he screams out the lyrics... sigh Love him!
Oh, there's a mistake: it should say "It's NICE to be important"

I fell in love with this song when I first heard it. I love how the album mixes classic and modern sounds. One of the best albums i heard in years. :)
simply beautiful...all comments valid, true. isn't his raw emotion and the play on the quote, "The war is over," fabulous? when I first heard the first chorus, I knew where he was going...
"This war ain't over....
:(
"It's nice to be important, but so close to being despised It's more important to be nice, I guess, than being wise"
-Machiavelli and Hitler wrote to lead, one must be feared as well as loved
maybe it's more important to be nice....than to be "right"
I love the parallels drawn between a war on logic and love in an intimate relationship...and the obvious war going on in 2009
Okay, not saying it's the official meaning of the song because it doesn't apply to all of it, but parts of the song reminds me of The Strokes. Not musically, but the process of the 5 of them kind of drifting apart. Luckily, they're still together, but I think it's pretty obvious they've all grown a bit too far from each other.
Anyways, I'd go into a full-on explanation of this song, but I just don't feel like it right now, ha. Amazing song, though.
