The Other Side of the Door Lyrics
In the heat of the fight, I walked away
ignoring words that you were saying...trying to make me stay
I said this time, I've had enough
and you've called a hundred times...but I'm not picking up
cause I'm so mad, I might tell you that it's over
but if you look a little closer
Chorus:
I said leave, but all I really want is you
to stand outside my window throwing pebbles
screaming I'm in love with you
wait there in the pouring rain coming back for more
and don't you leave, cause I know all I need
is on the other side of the door
Me and my stupid pride are sitting here alone
going through the photographs, staring at the phone
I keep going back over things we both said
and I remember the slamming door
and all, the things that I misread
so babe, if you know everything, tell me why you couldn't see
when I left I wanted you to chase after me, yeah
Repeat chorus
and I'll scream out the window...I can't even look at you
I don't need you, but I do, I do, I do
I'll say there's nothing you can say
to make this right again...I mean it...I mean it
What I mean is
Repeat chorus
With your face and the beautiful eyes
and the conversation with the little white lies
and the faded picture of a beautiful night, you
carried me from your car up the stairs
and I broke down crying, was she worth this mess
after everything and that little black dress
after everything I must confess...I need you...I need you.
ignoring words that you were saying...trying to make me stay
I said this time, I've had enough
and you've called a hundred times...but I'm not picking up

I just realised this song has Throwing pebbles in it too. She must either really want a person to show up at her window and toss pebbles at it, or it has happened in the passed, and she fell in love with it, because this is at least the third time it's been sung about. -Love Story -Hey Stephen -The Other Side Of The Door.
I think it's just a really romantic gesture (to her at least) because when you hear love stories it's always like "And he threw pebbles at her window or something"

You can't do that in the south; you'd get shot :) Nice song, though. Just recently figured out who this beautiful young woman is...obviously I'm not a country music fan. I just thought she was some kid the untalented, egotistical Kanye West harrassed.

Yeah good point Cest-La-Vie
I also realised that she says "that little black dress"
which she also refers to in "Tim McGraw"
Haha, i love how we connect these people :)
And possibly, yes maybe he did cheat on her "I broke down crying, was she worth this mess"
So it could also be applied to "Should of Said No"
Small fan :)
I love how the end of this song seems to pull all of her past songs together. Anyone know what I mean?
With your face and the beautiful eyes= (Taylor's song- beautiful eyes) and the conversation with the little white lies= (This part kind of reminds me of the way i loved you and how their relationship wasn't perfect but it was always exciting) and the faded picture of a beautiful night, you carried me from your car up the stairs= (Sparks Fly) and I broke down crying, was she worth this mess= (shouldve said no) after everything and that little black dress= (Tim Mcgraw) after everything I must confess...I need you...I need you.
I get from this song that she saw him with another girl and missunderstood the situation which caused tham to fight so she just walked away in the middle of their fight ignoring what he was saying because she was so mad. She feels like she has had enough and wants to give up on him but then looks at things more closely. She tells him to leave but wants him to see passed that and stand outside her window throwing pebbles saying he loves her. "Me and my stupid pride are sitting here alone going through the photographs, staring at the phone" .. This line says that how she got the wrong idea about the other girl so was left sitting alone with no one else to blame but herself and how shes waiting for him to call her. Shes sitting alone thionking of what eac of them said to each other when they were fighting, and how she misread everything. "I don't need you, but I do, I do, I do"... she wants to believe she doesn't need him but does. In the last verse shes thinking back of a certain moment in their relationship. She wonders if this other girl really was worth all this fighting and finally admits she does in fact need him!
i scream out the window, i can't even look at you, i don't need you but i do, i do, i do
story of my life. btw, the secret meaning of the song is 'what i was really thinking when i slammed the door' :)
"i say leave but all i really want is you to stand outside my window throwin pebbles screamin im in love with you":) my fav part
The end of the song kind of seems like a compilation of all her big songs.
yeah i agree! like the little black dress (tim mcgraw) was she worth this mess (shouldve said no) your face (one of her unproduced songs called your face) and your beautiful eyes (beautiful eyes)

i think, at the last part, she's talking about all her successful songs, and she's saying 'after everything, i need you'. like, after her fame and success and everything.
haha. or maybe not. i dont know. it's just an awesome song. there's a taylor swift song for every part of a girl's life.
Well most her songs are quite complex and well written. It just shows that she is such a simple girl and wants a romeo ending, the throwing pebbles, the rain, and for some reason 2 am. Ha so pretty much i think she writes about what she wants in a guy or how she wants to be treated in a relationship maybe?.
Taylor really can make some beautiful lyrics. 'I said leave, but all I really want is you to stand outside my window throwing pebbles screaming, "I'm in love with you!".'
