My interpretation of the song is that the writer feels like he doesn't fit in with society, and goes through day after day believing--that despite what other people say about him--he's not a normal person; and he can't care about anything or anyone most of the time, because he's too numb to care at all. He most likely struggles with depression, or maybe a tragic incident in his life has shook his reality--such as a car accident or a war. For whatever reason, he just doesn't feel like he fits in anywhere, and will continue life feeling alone until he finds a greater meaning or purpose for his living.

My Interpretation

You got all that from those few lyrics? Cool. I 'read" the song differently. I believe it's about a writer who THINKS he doesn't fit in, but how s/he views himself (for arguments sake) is not how others view him. His perception of self is skewed, and almost always negative. UGH

Those short lyrics punched me and that's why i came here

But i have a different interpretation than yours

I think he feels the kind of humiliation and shame you have when you realize how poor your choices and decisions were in the past

he's struggling with doubts and shame about himself and then realize that things are repeating (sometimes i feel like i haven't learned anything) and it's his own fault because he didn't work on his bad behavoiur/thoughts
