Outside These Walls

A little red bird sings the zoo to sleep
While a fox picks the locks so the two can leave
"Just a few more songs and we'll be free
To stay in the shade of the wildest trees!"
With a smile in the dark, a silent fox creeps
Past the giraffes and the lion's keep
To a place that's always been just out of his reach.
He smiles in the dark; a little red bird sings.
