Maria, Maria

Nosso filho está perto
Esta noite eu o vi em sonhos
Me chamando

Maria, Maria

Tente vê-lo chegando
A cabeleira vermelha
Como incêndio mais belo do que nós
Enquanto nós pensamos
Que ainda jaz na caixa de sapato
Não deixe nosso filho
Substituir o teu leite
Pelo leite das feras

Maria, Maria

Maria, não te iludas com pílulas ou outros métodos
Tarde demais para tais providências
Essa noite, Maria, essa noite ele gritou seu nome
Maria, Maria

I loved this song before I had any idea what he was saying in Portuguese, but I recently found a translation on lyricstranslate and it was a strange feeling to find out that he's saying this (more or less):

Maria, Maria Our son is close (nearby) Tonight I saw him in a dream Calling me I could notice him before Tonight I saw him suddenly, vaguely Maria, Maria Maria I'm afraid you won't make it in time That he appears in my nocturnal room With a knife in hand And a violent smile on his lips It's necessary to stop him from growing away from us And don't recognize us Maria, Maria Don't think I'm crazy Our son is already born And if we are not aware How will we know That our own flesh kills us Maria, Maria (Try even arriving red head of hair Like a conflagration more beautiful than us) While we think That lies yet Inside the shoebox Don't let our son Replace your milk With that of the beasts Maria, Maria Maria Don't delude yourself with pills or other methods Too late for providence Tonight, Maria, tonight he yelled your name Maria, Maria

And I was even more surprised that it actually happens to touch on one of my deepest fears, that if I had a baby it would be a possessed demon baby!

So the moral of my story is if there's ever a song you love in a different language that you don't understand, get it translated! It might just be about your fear of demon babies. :)

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
