Tell Me I'm a Wreck Lyrics
I could have been easier on you
I could have been all you held on to
I know I wasn't fair
I tried my best to care about you
(About you)
I know I could have been a better man
But I always had to have the upperhand
I'm struggling to see the better side of me
But I can't take all your jabs and taunts
You're pointing out my every fault
And you wonder why I walked away
When you tell me I'm a wreck
You say that I'm a mess
How could you expect anything less?
(Expect anything less)
You latched on to me
Then cried I strung you along
I told you when you asked
I knew this wouldn't last
At least I could be honest about that
(Honest about that)
And now you're telling everyone
How I only did you wrong
I guess you never knew me at all
Remember on my twenty-first birthday
You took me where we went on our first date?
We stayed till closing time
After four glasses of wine
You started with a pointless argument
You said that I forgot to compliment
The dress you wore that night
That I've seen a thousand times
But I think we just want different things
I want space, you want a diamond ring
Whatever made you think we were meant to be?
When you tell me I'm a wreck
You say that I'm a mess
How could you expect anything less?
(Expect anything less)
You latched on to me
Then cried I strung you along
(Cried I strung you along)
I told you when you asked
I knew this wouldn't last
At least I could be honest about that
(Honest about that)
And now you're telling everyone
How I only did you wrong
(How I only did you wrong)
Guess you never knew me at all
You tell me I'm a wreck

Still, I see you standing there
Waiting 'round for me to fall
(Waiting 'round for me to fall)
Girl, you must be crazy
Still believing you and me belong
I guess you never knew me at all
I could have been all you held on to

this song PERFECTLY represents how me and my ex's relationship was.
"i could have been easier on you, i could have been all you held onto. i know i wasn't fair, i tried my best to care about you. i know i could have been a better man, but always had to have the upper hand i'm struggling to see the better side of me but i can't take all your jabs and taunts"
he thinks he screwed me over and still regrets that we broke up, but he also thinks i treated him like dirt when in reality he was cheating- although i can honestly take some blame.
"i told you when you asked, i knew this wouldn't last at least i could be honest about that"
he says he tried to end it with me, but really he beat around the bush and didn't make his point at all.. next thing i knew he was in another relationship.
"i guess we both want different things, i want space.. you want a diamond ring"
until he started to drift away from me, i didn't want commitment. but now i would do anything to get him back.
i think this is the "new song" they played on the shh..it happens tour. it sounds really familiar and i love it =]
I've had this song on repeat for the past 4 hours I LOVE IT.
lol i had this song on repeat for a day and the next day, i had the lyrics memorized. just in time to see them at the Recher Theater.
I had this song pretty much the day they released it as a single on iTunes. iTunes sucks at preview picking, but they did good with this because I loveloveloved the song before the preview was half-over he first time I heard it. I love this entire album. and Every Avenue :D
And it's awesome live. I saw Every avenue on the White Tie Affair's Traveling Talent Show in Boston a few weeks ago. Best concert I've ever been to.
I love this song. It has been on repeat all day. Every Avenue is so amazing.
love love love this song.
The song is about a guy who doesn't have a good girlfriend. Songs like this are an inspiration to me to pick the right girl and not just date "because she's hot." I hate guys like that. >_<
I'm always headbanging on the chorus, Every Avenue have succeeded in making a favorite song of mine. :) I'm very critical when it comes to music.
Totally about a bad girlfriend and even worse ex. I always find the most random songs that I wind up falling in love with while surfing the web. This song kinda sounds like it belongs in a promo for a sitcom or something. I've already seen it used in some great fan videos.
I feel like it's an open goad towards an ex because their personalities were incompatible. 'I want space you want a diamond ring' explains that he wants to break it off, but she is oblivious and wants to marry him. He asks her to call him a 'wreck' when he thinks she is as well.
'I guess you never knew me at all' says the entire message. They didn't know each other at all. He is surprised she's angry at him for not 'complimenting' her and she at him for being surprised. They just didn't work together and he wants to (slightly aggressively) tell her that.
