"From why did my heart" should be "From what hid my heart" "She built a meadow" should be "She built a man, oh"

And so the winter night... I'm not entirely sure about that line it seems wrong to me

perfection!! always puts me in the greatest of moods.

So much wrong in these lyrics! These the complete ones, they make more sense and are more correct:

A little bird Came right up to me Found a thread, oh Hanging from my seam

And then he flew up high Until I fell apart Stitches they all flew, oh From what hid my heart

So then a little girl Came and found my bones She built a man, oh She sure made him watch

Yes and I still I knew That all dark was mine And its fading out, oh Every star I find

And so by the day Little girl and I Shook all trees, oh To see what would fly

And as Im a thief There's no need for words I just need to find, oh I need a field of birds

Great song. I think a bird is a metaphor for a woman. I think the first verses are about some lover that disappointed and left him. But then he find a little girl and she loves him (probably more than the opposite). The sadness of the leaving of his first lover is gone (old dark) because he found her (a star). In the last strophe I think the love with his second lover didn't work as well and he stole her heart. Then, he needs to find a field of birds (more and more lovers) because his relationships aren't coming out (or he is hurt or he hurts). Of course, my interpretation.

I like to interpret the bird as his lover and she dies and then the little girl is his daughter who stitches him back together and now he can find a girl of birds and get a new lover. But I can see it going many ways. Beautiful song!
