Satellite Heart Lyrics
So pretty, so smart
Such a waste of a young heart
What a pity, what a sham
What's the matter with you, man?
Don't you see it's wrong?
Can't you get it right?
Out of mind and outta sight
Call on all your girls,
don't forget the boys
Put a lid on all that noise
I'm a satellite heart
lost in the dark
I'm spun out so far
you stop, I start
But I'll be true to you
I hear you're living out of state,
running in a whole new scene
You know, I haven't slept in weeks,
you're the only thing I see
I'm a satellite heart
lost in the dark
I'm spun out so far
you stop, I start
But I'll be true to you
I'm a satellite heart
lost in the dark
I'm spun out so far
you stop I start
But I'll be true to you no matter what you do
Yeah, I'll be true to you
Such a waste of a young heart
What a pity, what a sham
What's the matter with you, man?
Can't you get it right?
Out of mind and outta sight
Call on all your girls,
don't forget the boys
Put a lid on all that noise
lost in the dark
I'm spun out so far
you stop, I start
But I'll be true to you
running in a whole new scene
You know, I haven't slept in weeks,
you're the only thing I see
lost in the dark
I'm spun out so far
you stop, I start
But I'll be true to you
lost in the dark
I'm spun out so far
you stop I start
Yeah, I'll be true to you

YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUT OF MY MOUTH:)

Satellites revolve around earth's gravitational pull right? Maybe her heart acts like a satellite to him kinda like saying "he means the world to me" or he/she is "my world"
i don't know just a guess :)
yh, sounds good, what i thought :)

I think this song is written from Bella's perspective just after Edward has left her she feels 'lost in the dark, i'm spun out so far'. It talks about what Bella's imagining Edward doing and where he is 'i hear your living out of state, running in a whole new scene'. It's also as if Bella's wanting to tell him things 'you know i haven't slept in weeks, your the only thing i see'. I dont quiet understand the satelite heart. Maybe its like Bella's heart is completely out of this world and no one would be able to be on the same level as her when it comes to heart break?! Love the song.
Well, they haven't said if the song was written for New Moon specifically, but it definitely resonates with the book perfectly.

At some point in the book Bella equates her situation (pining for Edward, living her life circling the void he left) to a rogue moon, still circling the place where a planet once existed, despite the lack of gravity. That's the sad part of the metaphor, that she (or her heart) is a satellite, circling helplessly, caught in the gravity of someone or something else. And worse, she's unable to pull away, doomed to circle forever, or until something...

That's the sad part of the metaphor, that she (or her heart) is a satellite, circling helplessly, caught in the gravity of someone or something else. And worse, she's unable to pull away, doomed to circle forever, or until something finally knocks her out of the sky and sends her burning to the ground.
Also, I don't remember if this is true or not, so physics people correct me, but in theory, if a force that is exerting a gravitational pull on another object (such as the earth to the moon) suddenly ceases to exist, wouldn't that object be flung out of its orbit and into space? It's such a beautiful and tragic metaphor. With or without the Twilight/New Moon reference, it's just a beautiful way to equate the pain and loss of being left behind by someone that you still revolve around. Whether it's being left behind in a long distance relationship, or being left behind for good...
Sometimes, you just find it hard to stop circling the life you once had, and move forward.
except it wasn't written for new moon...it was already done before new moon picked it up. It works for new moon, too, but it has more than the quality of a book written for frothing-at-the-mouth teenage girls...

I think it could also be about a girl who has a boyfriend whose life moves too fast for her to catch up with. Perhaps he lives in his job, or goes clubbing, or has an affair, or gambles constantly. Yet she remains loyal to him, and he's her whole world, even though she knows she deserves more. Just a thought This song matches...

(Unlike Lady Gaga or all the useless, horrid crap played on pop radio...)
The phrase Satellite Heart is explained by Anya in the chorus. Not sure this song was actually written with Twilight in mind
the line "lost in the dark" just kills me. it's such a simple song with simple lyrics but it's so heartwrenching.
i see the first two verses as the opinions of the people around the speaker. They're basically saying what the hell is wrong with you? why are you so attached to this person? you're too young.
me thinks. lol.
This song is so sad and so haunting. It was perfect for New Moon. The "satellite heart" part, i think, was that Bella had her heart orbiting around Edward and that she's "lost in the dark" now that he left her. I agree with tj23 about the part where it says "I hear you're living out of state, running in a whole new scene" that Edward left and went to Brazil. Thats what I get from it. It fits very well. I wish I had a voice like Anya's.
edward went to brazil? hmmm...

this song i dont think was written for twilight/new moon..
it was playing in the radio of the car when they were talking long before he left her, so it wasnt even relating to her loss. its just coincidence that they picked this song for the soundtrack (:
I think I agree with the majority of interpretations on this thread. The whole "I'm a satellite heart...lost in the dark...I'm spun out so far...you stop, I start...But I'll be true to you" is so brilliant. It so captures that feeling when you somehow realize how you've made someone your whole world. When things are going well, you don't realize how dependent you've become on someone for your happiness....but when things don't go well, like the person leaving/breaking your heart...then even tho they are gone...your life still totally revolves around them. You still think about them constantly, wonder how to get them back, replay all the conversations over and over in your own head, can't love anyone else, etc. You spin out of control somewhat. It's such a lovely, floaty kind of song...and a bit sad but yet a hint of being stubborn...with the declaration of "I'll be true to you..no matter what you do....Yeah, I'll be true to you" just refusing to even try and move on and get over them even tho they hurt them deeply.
there's a part in new moon where bella says she's like a moon revolving around a planet that no longer exists denying the laws of gravity, i think she may have taken this line and ran with it...moon was changed to satellite and there you have it. this is my favorite song on the soundtrack.
ah i completely agree! bella lost edward and he acts as the sun or planet? and even though the sun/planet is gone (aka edward) she is still orbiting him by some miracle. like she is still alive and physically present but she feels otherwise dead and her soul is lost. and maybe when anya sings that, "i'll be true to you" it could mean to jacob and that even though she was hurt she can still be true friends with jacob. just a thought

I love this song. Her voice is fantastic. It's what makes this song so amazing.
