the bill hicks joke doug references is hilarious. i could totally see doug agree with a lot of hick's philosophies on life. As a matter of fact the entire album "There is No Enemy" seems like an homage to Hicks. For instance Life's a Dream is a track on the album and Hicks once talked about how Life was simply a ride. This dreamy, existential anxiety mythology about the workings of the world seems to be prevalent in both artists work.

I think Doug is saying it's just fucked up how people are willing to fuck over other humans or be so concerned with monetary or perhaps material things. Perhaps he truly does want these fuckers to kill themselves. I mean Doug is a Smiths fan and those guys didn't really give a fuck about assholes. These guys are post humans transcending reality.

Near the end of the song, I am certain the the lyric is "I think Bill Hicks was right about what they should do", rather than "I think a fix was right about what they should do".

The Bill Hicks reference refers to his joke about people in marketing and advertising, and is from where the song title is derived:

Awesome song. This song is kinda calling for people to wake up and realize what we're doing to ourselves. Everyone. Don't join society. Find a way to screw over industrial capitalism until enough people join in and the whole thing falls apart. That doesn't mean don't make money necessarily, although in my mind the endpoint is the end of money. But make money, find out who or what these corporations represent, and dont give them any money. Simple. They control what you think. If you're not aware of it, that's because they make sure of it, and because your thoughts are being controlled. Not a crazy theory, its the truth. Watch a documentary, i'd recommend anything on the media, or about Monsanto, or about the military industrial complex. Messing with our minds, getting rich wasting our time. bill hicks is the man. built to spill are the men.
