Obviously a political song, which are songs I don't typically like because I don't like that musicians use their fame to have power over the masses (push their personal opinions on politics). It's awfully low to spread your politics onto a captive audience at a concert, for example. With that said, I love Browne and the third stanza sums the song (and possibly thought) up beautifully: why tout being free/having freedom when we choose to go to war.
