I think this is about a guy who is so in love with this girl and wants her to feel the same. He sees her as his. But his friend Jo tells him that he saw the girl, presumably "Kandi" with a guy. He feels cheated "and it hurts beyond hurt". He wants her to tell him why she needed this guy and didn't just come to him instead. Beautiful, sad song.
I agree with DecemberSun,; it's like this poor guy is torturing himself by backing this girl he's obsessed with in a corner and demanding to know about this guy in her life, all though deep down he's aware it will probably only hurt him more. I also agree with you guys... It was originally a song by Candi Staton. One eskimO changed the point of view and reworked it so it's a guy talking about a girl talking about a guy.

It's a cover actually. It was originally written and sang by a woman.
really, only the "he called me baby" parts are covers... kind of. they took cliips from another song (by Candi) and inserted it into the song. that's why it seems like the guy has hearing problems and for some reason cant understand what shes saying.
I litterally just heard of these guys this morning when I saw this music video. Now at 6:00 I have their album in my iTunes library. This is a good song and i cant wait to hear the rest.
