Propaganda Lyrics
On the air
the ministry broadcasts
Pavlov’s dog jerking
in tune in time
barking but headless
orgasms in pain
thought a condition
morality insane
But me and you we know better
It’s only propaganda
we’re leading wonderful lives
Nuremburg ’33
again in ’45
intimidation necessary
for the violence to survive
in the re-run
the cast is the same
animals feeding
insane insane
But me and you we know better
It’s only propaganda
we’re leading wonderful lives
the ministry broadcasts
Pavlov’s dog jerking
in tune in time
barking but headless
orgasms in pain
thought a condition
morality insane
It’s only propaganda
we’re leading wonderful lives
again in ’45
intimidation necessary
for the violence to survive
in the re-run
the cast is the same
animals feeding
insane insane
It’s only propaganda
we’re leading wonderful lives

To me, this song is about the tendency of people to rationalise growing authoritarianism by dismissing it as empty rhetoric. Even when the state dials up the hate, they don't see (or refuse to see) that the blatant threat in what to them is 'only propaganda' is setting up the boot that's soon to fall on their 'wonderful lives'. They believe they're above the propaganda but don't realise they're next in line for oppression.
