Amie Lyrics

I can see why you think you belong to me
I never tried to make you think, or let you see one thing for yourself
But now you're off with someone else and I'm alone
You see I thought that I might keep you for my own

Amie what you want to do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer if I do

Don't you think the time is right for us to find
All the things we thought weren't proper could be right in time
And can you see
Which way we should turn together or alone
I can never see what's right or what is wrong
(will it take too long to see)

Amie what you want to do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer if I do

Well now
Amie what you want to do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer if I do

Now it's come to what you want you've had your way
And all the things you thought before just faded into gray
And can you see
That I don't know if it's you or if it's me
If it's one of us I'm sure we'll both will see
Won't you look at me and tell me

Amie what you want to do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer
Longer if I do

Yeah now
Amie what you want to do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer if I do

Fallin' in and out of love with you
Fallin' in and out of love with you
Don't know what I'm gonna do, I'd keep
Fallin' in and out of love
With you

To me this song is incredibly catchy and I like the lyrics... they are simple but I think really mature... as in it took me some years before I could understand it/and enjoy it, better. I think they went to some trouble to construct a really good pop tune with insightful but simple lyrics that would also have a kind of folky tinge to it. It works. What's endearing about it is I think it's capturing that moment were a guy realizes, both joyfully and somewhat anxiously, that this woman that he's in love with is the person he might just go all the way with....

I think this song is pretty self explanatory. AMIE held on to the singer for so long because he never gave her reason to think he didn't want her. He kept her hoping. AMIE moved on with another. Now the singer is allalone. This is him calling out to AMIE telling her he'd like to be with her.

I see the singer as a jerk. His possessiveness drove her away and he still does not realize that. He never even let her think for herself. Even now he talks like she is just a thing that he thinks he might be able to stay with for a while... as if she has no say in the matter.
