Red Telephone Lyrics

I woke alone
In a mansion on a hill
Across the room
A red telephone
My mouth was dry
I felt I'd been asleep for years
I turned and I
Discovered then the sum of all my fears
What have I become?
Someone tell me that I'm dreaming
What have I become?
Someone wake me up!

Through the glass
The clouds were dark and harboured rain
The land below
Was gray and vast
And through the mist
I saw the fields were flush with graves
And each headstone
Was etched with lies discrediting the brave
What have I become?
Someone tell me that I'm dreaming
What have I become?
Someone wake me up!
What have I become?
Someone tell me that I'm dreaming
What have I become?
Someone wake me up!

Son, imitate death's true face
For who and what and why'd they have to die?
Son, imitate death's true face
For who and what and why'd they have to die?
Why'd they have to die?
Someone wake me up!

Dustin said there was an anagram in the song that would help with the meaning, "son, imitate deaths true face" = The United States of America. I'm pretty sure this song is about america being ashamed of the extent to which we wage war and in the name of what?

I'm not sure the lines "Someone tell me that I'm dreaming" and "Someone wake me up" are sung by dustin. maybe ed?

I am pretty sure I hear that it was teppei singing.

going along with the "united states of america" anagram...here's my train of thought:

mansion on a hill - white house/capital hill red telephone - presidential office phone sum of all fears - nuclear thriller novel graves/gray land/rain - nuclear fallout

it seemed fitting and probably goes much, much deeper. eh, it's a start. go thrice!

this song and "the red telelphone" by Love each begin with a line about being on a hill/hillside
