Evil Lyrics
I wish I could go back
Go back in time
I wish I could go back
Back in time
I would've warned you
Those people are evil
And it's hard to understand
I'll never understand
I wish I could go back
Go back in time
But no one ever really can
Go back in time
I would have shown you
Those people are evil
And they'll hurt you if they can
I'll never understand
Understand
I'll never understand
(It is from the embryonic)
Go back in time
I wish I could go back
Back in time
Those people are evil
And it's hard to understand
I'll never understand
Go back in time
But no one ever really can
Go back in time
Those people are evil
And they'll hurt you if they can
I'll never understand
Understand
I'll never understand

What a great track. Before performing this live, Wayne always says that it is a song about animal testing, and the people who abuse animals that way. And if you listen to the song with that idea in mind, you can definitely hear it. But I actually like both of the other ideas, that it's about people in the speaker's future (this is how I heard it the first time), and that it's about the nature of evil (and people) itself.
people are evil
Scary.
The music is so eerie and beautiful that the meaning suggests that he is yearning to warn someone that people in the now present are evil and he regrets not being able to have the ability to warn that person. He could be referring to himself in the third person, too, as though the "you" is himself in the past, and he wishes he could warn himself about evil people on the horizon that he got mixed up in the recent past.
I've been listening to this song a lot, and I really agree with you that it's about him wishing he could warn his "younger self." Wishing he could go back in time and warn himself not to trust the evil people.

I've been feeling this way too lately.

best song on the album, almost sounds to me like a B-side to All we have is now. Its about a person attempting and failing to explain why people are evil "It is from the embryonic" suggests that it may be that all people are inherently evil. I also like how the simplicity of the beat parallels the seeming simplicity of the song but like the lyrics and their meaning, it grows and becomes something greater and more intricate.
