I Can Be a Frog Lyrics

She said I can be a frog
I can be a bat
I can be a bear
Or I can be a cat

She said I can be a lion
I can be a gila monster
I can be a warrior Indian
I can be a helicopter

She said I can be a wolf
I can be a finch
I can be a jaguar
Or a locust on the bridge

She said I can be a monkey
I can be a tiger
I can be a tornado
Knocking down your wires

Well, it seems like she can be anything
Any kind of creature she wants to be
Oh, it seems like she can be anything
Any kind of frog
Any kind of bear
Any kind of monkey
She wants to be

I think that in this song, after experiencing ego death in The Ego's Last Stand, the female character that's in like almost all the songs is telling the protagonist that they're free to be anything since they're not longer tied down by their egos.

And then in the next song you have that weird priest-like character urging his listeners to be free like the characters in this song are.

I guess.

yay karen o! :D i think this song is about finding the child in your heart and getting in touch with your imagination :)

have a happy life!

Reminds me of Devendra Banhart's "Little Yellow Spider." I love the childish silliness of both songs.

It sounds like either his mother or some other woman he admires tells him that he can be anything in creation and at the end of the song he admires her because she can be all those things and anything else she wants to be. I agree with the above poster, that childhood imagination and getting in touch with that allows someone to become anything they want to become.

when the line "i can be a tornado, knocking down your wires," i think girl making noises in the background says "no! fuck no! fuck nooo!"

agree with both rachel_____face and monkeyninja, as far as the general song goes, but Elegnaim has opinions very similar to my own, especially in that the stories and messages run together through these albums.

When I hear this song, I can't help but feel that I, too, can be anything I want to be. I think that's all that matters.

Without taking into context the rest of the album, I heard something completely different: my ex's subconscious speaking. My most recent serious relationship was with a self-centered, overrated egotist actor. She was able to assume a variety of roles, including the role of f***ing up my world like a tornado. In the end, sometimes I wondered if she wasn't more of a creature than just a human with a screwed up idea of love. Interestingly, most of the entities mentioned above that "she can be" are predators or killers - not exactly the most innocuous of beings.

Omigosh dude, don't think I'm laughing AT you, but that was the most hilarious interpretation of this song ever. I know EXACTLY what you mean. I have an ex JUST LIKE THAT. I never even liked that song, but after reading this, this song speaks to me. You might be wrong, but you gave this song meaning for me.

I have never previously heard The Flaming Lips before I listened to this song just now at 3 AM, and I created an account on here to reply to this comment.

True that, man. True that.
