'I was all kiss curls and cows lick, got angel delight' is past tense, he is reflecting on the situation. 'Then I grew out of the kiss curls and cows lick' is explicitly stating he grew out of the relationship. 'Got a hairy back' could also be metaphorical, meaning as the relationship went on, it became a reality, they both showed who they really were, or that it became ugly. 'Then I grew out of the kiss curls and cows lick, growing twenty five', obviously meaning that he was growing older and, therefore, grew out of the relationship. Overall, the song 'Sleep Tonight' is about a short-lived relationship with someone.
