I Belong to You/Mon Coeur S'Ouvre a Ta Voix Lyrics
When these pillars get pulled down
It will be you who wears the crown
And I'll owe everything to you
How much pain has cracked your soul?
How much love would make you whole?
You're my guiding lightning strike
I can't find the words to say, they're overdue
I'd travel half the world to say "I belong to you"
And she attacks me like a Leo
When my heart is split like Rio
And I assure you my debts are real
I can't find the words to say when I'm confused
I travel half the world to say "You are my muse"
Versez moi l'ivresse
Réponds à ma tendresse
I belong I belong to you
I can't find the words to say, they're overdue
I traveled half the world to say
"I belong to you"
It will be you who wears the crown
And I'll owe everything to you
How much love would make you whole?
You're my guiding lightning strike
I'd travel half the world to say "I belong to you"
When my heart is split like Rio
And I assure you my debts are real
I travel half the world to say "You are my muse"
Réponds à ma tendresse
I traveled half the world to say
"I belong to you"

This is actually my favorite song on The Resistance album. I think it's sexy and the most beautiful song and extremely romantic. I also think I've made the connection between this album and the whole 1984 theme Matt was inspired by. The french "bridge" for lack of a better word is from the Samson et Delila opera made famous by Maria Callas. The french lines are backwards in the lyrics posted above. It should be "Ah, reponds a ma tendresse...Versez moi, versez moi livresse" (forgive any spelling errors) But although he says these lines several times...this is the order of how it's said first as well as in the opera. It means "Respond to my tenderness...pour out to me the drunkeness" The similarity between the Samson and Delila story from the bible as well as the 1984 characters of Winston Smith and his Julia is that the men fell so in love with these women...and although each loved them back...they both ultimately betrayed them for power, glory & fear of authority figures, etc. I think the song conveys that complete surrender to the ones they love. They may know that they are doomed by this love or possible betrayal...but it doesn't matter, they are powerless against it.They love completely with their whole being. I suppose it could be also represent how we can be seduced by our government and promises they make...but I prefer to think of it on the romantic level.
Very true, I think the song meshes well into the whole album because if you do not love, you are not human.

[Mon Cœur S'ouvre à Ta Voix] (My heart opens itself to your voice) Ah! Réponds, (Ah! Respond,) Réponds à ma tendresse (Respond to my tenderness) Verse-moi, verse-moi l'ivresse! (Pour out to me, pour out to me the euphoria!) Réponds à ma tendresse! (Respond to my tenderness!) Réponds à ma tendresse! (Respond to my tenderness!) Ah! Verse-moi l'ivresse! (Ah! Pour out to me the euphoria!)

There is what the French translation for the song is
I think it's a good track because it's not typical Muse. And it doesn't have those epic highs and lows. It think it gives Matt a chance to show off his vocal ability. Which is a direct reference to his french lyrics. Also it's a good transition between the first half of the album to Exogenesis which, goes without saying, is absolutely brilliant.
also ...after the french section...he actually sings "I belong to you....alone"
I love your explanation, I have been wondering I also love this track and the love the whole feel of the album thank you

Meh, I love Muse, but these are some very elementary forced lyrics.
Agreed. It makes me sick that they created such a beatiful melody and wasted it on such shifty lyrics. The Leo/rio stanza is embarrassing to even listen to. WTF is up with that shit? I think the stanza could have only been saved if he had sung "and I'm hungry like the wolf" after the ear bleeding Rio line.

Otherwise, great melodies, harmonies, and instrumentation.

This is in fact a great track. Yes, its probably their "pop"-iest track in awhile, but its still great music. Elementary lyrics not in the least. You don't drop French in what you consider "elementary" lyrics.
Just give the record another spin and let Muse raise your hair yet again.
Poppiest track in awhile? I think your mistaken, the last album contained SMBH.

Even though it doesn't sound like everything Muse had done previously, I think it's great! It's very different from what we were used to, but it's got something special that makes me love it... About the meaning... self explanatory... I really like UNsweeT's comments, very interesting! and I also think that this song is about Matt's relationship... 'cause it says "I'd travel half the world to say..." and he's got an Italian girlfriend... and the "And she attacks me like a Leo" part, since she's a leo lol
I have to recall that Matt is saying he belongs to his band MUSE. I believe so because if you listen closely before the french verse he says "You are my Mu-" and after the verse he says "Use" -clarinette solo-. Thats my supporting opinion on how he expresses himself for his band :P

Hmm... could be. But in my opinion he's not refering to the band. Muse means something like inspiration. And with what people have said before about his girlfriend etc I think he's calling her (or whoever/whatever this song is about) his inspiration for writing music. Just my opinion.

"Overdue," "Guiding Light-ning," and "Muse" stuck out when sung. Self-references? That may support what TheKnewl says about the meanings, but the rest of the lyrics don't seem to support that interpretations.
Love the song regardless. The French caught me by complete surprise, hah. It's a good buffer between Unnatural Selection + MK Ultra and Exogenesis. There needed to be something to slow down the epic amounts of energy to set the stage for Part 1.
I love this song- when I first listened to the album, it really stood out for me. It's not a... typical... sort of Muse song. I liked it, I really did, it's in a different sort of direction to the stuff they've done before, but then that's what they're all about, I suppose. Typical's not in their nature. :)
