Pull My Heart Away Lyrics
I'm ripping your posters off the wall
I'm moving the boxes into the hall
I stop when I hear a drum beat call
It must be a sign
It is time
I need to take myself away
From a pillowed hand on which I stand
And throw me out the side of a plane
And I'll just see where I land
I will have to pull my heart away
Cause if I never leave, I'll ruin yesterday
It's not like my feet are stuck to the floor
It's not like I'm wanting to nail down the door
I want you to throw my shoes in the fire
And I'll watch the souls burn
on the funeral pyre, and it will
Over and it'll
Change my position
And I'll know that nobody
Nobody's listening
And it's easy for me
And it's better for the soul
And it's better for you
And it's better for all
I will have to pull my heart away
Cause if I never leave, I'll ruin yesterday (x2)
I'm over with words
I'm moving in lines
And all that I've heard
Is jump off the side
Jump off the side
I will have to pull my heart away
Cause if I never leave I'll ruin yesterday (x2)
I will have to pull my heart away...
I'm moving the boxes into the hall
I stop when I hear a drum beat call
It must be a sign
It is time
From a pillowed hand on which I stand
And throw me out the side of a plane
And I'll just see where I land
Cause if I never leave, I'll ruin yesterday
It's not like I'm wanting to nail down the door
I want you to throw my shoes in the fire
And I'll watch the souls burn
on the funeral pyre, and it will
Change my position
And I'll know that nobody
Nobody's listening
And it's easy for me
And it's better for the soul
And it's better for you
And it's better for all
Cause if I never leave, I'll ruin yesterday (x2)
I'm moving in lines
And all that I've heard
Is jump off the side
Jump off the side
Cause if I never leave I'll ruin yesterday (x2)

to me the song is about a relationship that needs to finish, its reached as far as its going and either one needs to leave for the best of them both, from the first few lyrics, it appears the relationship is already over and hes moving out a shared house or something and starting a life without her, "And throw me out the side of a plane And I'll just see where I land".
awesome song, such a laid back and easy listening tune, love it
Yeah, I agree, it's about breakup. It's really good song and I enjoy listening to it.
At Leeds Fest he said it was about moving out of home. Kinda ruined it for me for a second but then realised I didn't care and the songs amazing whatever.

Didnt mean to post that as a reply, sorry. Im new.
It's not necessarily about a relationship.. I interpreted it as a need to get away from a place you love, as it may not be good for you to be there anymore. It could also be about how you can, if you want, change ['It's not like my feet are stuck to the floor'] etc. Bloody incredible song though.
Such an amazing song. I'm gonna have to agree with center stage whole heartedly. Bloody Incredible! thecurrent.org awesome music streaming all the time, where i first heard this song.
i agree with what dain says
i believe its about a relationship that has ended or ending. its about the stages of grief.
it could be that hes regretting what has happened
it could be that he is slowly realising that he needs to move on as bad and as hard as it may be, he is willing to move on and risk it
Then its reasurance, aknowledgement And then he accepts it
''It must be a sign It is time''
''I need to take myself away From a pillowed hand on which I stand And throw me out the side of a plane And I'll just see where I land''
''It's not like my feet are stuck to the floor It's not like I'm wanting to nail down the door I want you to throw my shoes in the fire And I'll watch the souls burn on the funeral pyre, and it will''
I think this song is not so much about conventional break up, but rather a situation where its best to break up despite what you may feel as you know its going to go sour
"I will have to pull my heart away Cause if I never leave, I'll ruin yesterday"
If he doesnt break up, all the good memories and feeling will be tainted by the incuring arguments and what not.
Atm, im in a similar situation, I have a lovely girlfriend, but, i have a new job which means i will have to move away, we talked about the long distance stuff, but secretly im sceptical and think it may be best to end things on good terms rather than a slow dissent. :/
I agree that this song could be about more than a human relationship. I think alot of it has to do with severing an emotional connection with a certain lifestyle or phase of life. He know he must move on to the next phase of his life despite uncertainty. He knows this is a necessary part of growing up and out, but he's attached to something that he knows he must leave. I also thought about the possibility of leaving a luxurious life style "pillowed hand" for the military "side of a plane". Very literal but it's a possibility.
This is more than leaving his relationship this is about leaving this life to advance his soul to a new level.
Hmm, interesting take on it. I can't say I agree that the writer had this in mind, but that's what makes most music so great - it's open to various interpretations.

I agree with pople who think that this song is not about a brake up or any other loving subject. I think is more about leaving your confort zone, and start a new life, about beeing brave and do what you know you have to do to move along and reach another stage of life, or even end up with stuff wich you know is not good for you...
