Hard Believer Lyrics
I don't think this song is directed to a boyfriend or any one person in particular. I think it's just anyone who is overly religious and preachy about it. The person speaking is either an atheist or a secularist, and they wish to live life because they love to, not because they feel like they need to dedicate all their time to some nosy control-freak up in the sky. :)
It hurts, because I relate to these lyrics so much. I pretty much cried when I first heard this song, and it still gives me chills because I'm going through exactly what she's singing about. I adore this band.
It's just about an atheist/agnostic relating with life - people who are religious and preachy want to say that atheists can't enjoy/love life and this song is showing quite rightly that everyone can. This is just about life
So you ask for my opinion well what is there to say To be honest and just foolish wont make you want to stay Youve got to go on and get moving and I cant do that for you Got so many plans and so much you want to do
I think this song is about a lover/boyfriend leaving. Maybe he has plans for his future and doesn't see her in them, or she doesn't want to go along with them. He asks what she thinks but it really doesn't matter to him and he is gonna leave anyways.
Well I see youve got your bible your delusion imagery Well I dont need your eternity or your meaning to feel free I just live because I love to and thats enough you see So dont come preach about morality thats just human sense to me
He is religious, she isn't and he preaches to her all the time about it and she doesn't like it.
Love is tough, time is rough On me
She loves him but must let him go, maybe its just not the right time.
So you ask for my opinion, Well what is there to say? To be honest, and just foolish won't make you want to stay.
You've got to go on and get moving, and I can't do that for you. Got so many plans and so much you want to do.
Love is tough, time is rough, Love is tough, Time is rough on me.

Love is tough, time is rough, Love is tough, Time is rough on me, on me, on me.
And it's one life, and it's this life, and it's beautiful. (X4)
Love is tough, Time is rough on me.
It's a silly girl to scoff at the notion of eternity when it's offered; or anyone for that matter. Quite easy though when in youth, old age and deteriorating health seem like a distant land. I'd rather accept loving and wise limitations with allowances for my imperfections and have more than the boneyard to look forward to. The delusion is on you sweetheart; if only you could see what's really going on.

This one pays homage to the book The god delusion, by Richard Dawkins. They said so on twitter.com/FirstAidKitBand/status/230767361970540544
