Someone Like You Lyrics
I'm wearing thin
I couldn't tell you the city I'm in
The streets and the buildings
And places I've been
Or when the stars go when it's daylight again
Or where the time went
Oh, who can save me now?
My life in the rearview
I'm runnin' from Jesus
Don't know where I'm going to
I got nothin' to lose
I'm fightin' my demons
Been lookin' for someone like you
I've been lookin' for someone like you
So sing me a song I know all the words to
And I'll sing along
Could you be my savior?
I've been out here too long
And I've just been lookin' for somewhere to belong
Been holdin' on
So can you save me now?
My life in the rearview
I'm runnin' from Jesus
Don't know where I'm going to
I got nothin' to lose
I'm fightin' my demons
Been lookin' for someone like you
I've been lookin' for someone like you
When the stars explode
And I'm all alone
When they start to see the smoke
When I finally burn out
I'll need someone to carry me home
Safe and sound
My life in the rearview
I'm runnin' from Jesus
Don't know where I'm going to
I got nothin' to lose
I'm fightin' my demons
Been lookin' for someone like you
My life in the rearview
I'm runnin' from Jesus
Don't know where I'm going to
I got nothin' to lose

Yeah, really about Jesus. The greatest man that ever lived.
I couldn't agree more!
I couldn't agree more!
The song starts out by describing a person who is lost in the world. They aren't sure where they are ("I couldn't tell you the city I'm in"), and they want someone to help them ("Oh, who can save me now?").
The next part gets to me quite drastically. It has a religious edge to it; I think it's possibly about someone who's losing faith in God, and this person either gives them faith or has the ability to help them find God again. The person has "nothing to lose", and is trying to fight their demons. This person is exactly what they've been hoping for.
The song continues to elaborate on how the person is feeling lonely, and wants this new person they know to help them out of this rut, and how they'd follow them, probably in order to be happy and find faith.
This is one of my favorites on the new album. BLG still amazes me with their new album.
Martin explains this on there youtube account.
"So I was sitting there & you know, I broke out the acoustic guitar, put on some weird tuning. & basically I was like, this is me now. The whole last record was me, 17 to 20 But this is me now... I'm lost, I'm homeless on the road, & this is me wearing thin. & I incorporated it into a girl, iv'e been looking for something, I need something, I need somewhere to belong, I need a place, you know? It's kind of like me asking for help, I was struggling on the road."
To me that explains this perfectly, it's beautiful. Definitely a favourite off the album(:
Mmkay. It's not a Christian song. It's not about how he "stayed away from faith" This song was the first track written on the album. It's about being on the road, not having a real home. And he needs someone. He's looking for someone to make him feel at home and that jazz.
go look up Boys Like Girls - Someone Like You on YouTube and there should be a video of Martin talking.
So no, IT IS NOT ABOOUT RELIGION.
"IT IS NOT ABOOUT RELIGION" yet it says Jesus

And it's pretty hilarious when people freak out about it.

ok I'm kinda confused... is this about a Christian running away from Jesus and leaving his life as a christian behind him? or is it about someone looking for a savior and they find Jesus? or it could be what someone said above about someone that has lost their faith and is looking for it again. it is either a completely non Christian song or a really great Christian song. I just don't kno which one. I hope it's a Christian :)
Why the religious need? Like...why do you feel that this song should be Christian?

first of all, Christianity is NOT a religion. it is a relationship with Christ. and secondly, like i said above ^ its either a completely anti christian song, or its christian. if its anti, then i will stop listening to it because i am a very strong christian and of corse i want people to hear what i believe through songs that normally wouldnt offer it :)

Okay i'm gonna be totally honest. This song makes me cry whenever I hear it. It explains the start of my sophomore year in high school. With how it is to me is that he's fallen in love with he can't have. Maybe a girl who is already in a realtionship but to me it's about a guy who I can't have because i'm a guy. He falls in love with them and is lost with the rush of emotions. So he doesn't know what to do. He falls into a depression because he's holding his emotions inside when all he needs to do is to just tell them. The whole runnig from Jesus part is about it maybe being a love that goes against what Jesus or God says. Like me falling in love with another guy. But in the end he tells them that he likes them and asks. "If I break or wear down will you be there to save me and carry me home safe and sound?" He's been looking for someone like them and he found them.
I think it is a Christian song. I feel like the Martin (lead singer/songwriter) is talking kind of how he strayed away from faith without really realizing it. I think a lot of us do. kind of take things for granted. I think he must have had an event take place in his life that made him really think about life and finally really understand the pattern of life.
