Until the Lion Learns to Speak Lyrics

until the lion learns to speak
the tales of hunting will be weak
my poetry helds with in the streets
my poerty fails to be discrete
it travels across the earth and seas
from eriteria to the west indies
it knows no boundries no trees
studied part of the greece
runtaa, hadii kale waxaan lahaa

I am sick as far as lyrics
I with it as far as gymics
I spit barraging limit
the shit they talking ripin
I am hip the hop is living
I skip the abvious women
don't get what I am presenting
no rims my mind spinnin
runtaa, hadii kale waxaan lahaa

I was born and raised in the place
were torn flame with would blaze
Where foreigners are not embraced
Where they warn you in jogging pace
Where the loners lower their gaze
Where the corners slower the chase
Where they twist and turn in a maze
With a pistol upon your face
runtaa, hadii kale waxaan lahaa

so come with me to my lungs
the depths of can be overrun
with passion see how I come
no cash I'm free in the slams
and the past can we overcome
I'm asking we be the ones
to actually be the ones
to free our people from guns
runtaa, hadii kale waxaan lahaa

I beg to differ with Cantabile's interpretation of the first line. "Until the lion learns to speak the tales of hunting will be weak" is in no way calling out other artists. It's a statement that has its roots in feminism; if only one side of a narrative is told, the story will be weak. The more perspectives given, the closer to reality a narrative is. So, when he says "Until the lion learns to speak the tales of hunting will be weak" we understand that tales of hunting are only given from the perspective of the hunter, and not the hunted. These tales are this limited and one-sided. Until we understand the lion's perspective on the hunt, the story is incomplete. It has nothing to do with calling out other artists: k'naan is not so arrogant. It has everything to do with hearing all sides of a story and understanding that one perspective is just that, and not complete.

I love this song, we went over it in English class and I think it's amazing. In the line "Until the lion learns to speak the tales of hunting will be weak" he's basically calling out other artists saying that they might have something very important to say, but until they learn HOW to say it it means nothing. Absolutely amazing! (but these lyrics are wrong...)
