It Stops Today Lyrics

No, no, I, I, I, I, I don't want to break when I speak
I don't want to shake while I'm standing
I don't want to crawl into another hole
I don't know what I'm hiding for
No, I, I, I, I, I don't want to fall when I stand
I don't want to have to hold your hand
I just want to be the girl I used to be when I was me and worry free
And I know these burdens on my own

But I can't keep on running
No, I just can't keep on running away from here
I know that the only way to beat it is to fight my every fear
I'm not gonna make it 'til I turn around and face it alone, I know
That I can't keep on running, no I just can't keep on running away
So it stops today

So here I am, I'm taking my first step
Thought I was losing balance but I caught myself
I kind of like the challenge, no I don't need help
I am gonna make it past the very start
It's always been my hardest part

But I, I, I, I, I am gonna stay in control
I must admit this crutch is getting old
I am gonna throw it out of my hand
I'm finally here, I understand
I know I'll get there on my own

So I can't keep on running
No, I just can't keep on running away from here
I know that the only way to beat it is to fight my every fear
I'm not gonna make it 'til I turn around and face it alone, I know
That I can't keep on running, no I just can't keep on running away
So it stops today

You can hide from all the pain
But it will find you anyway
Yes, I know
Now I know

That I can't keep on running
No, I just can't keep on running away from here
I know that the only way to beat it is to fight my every fear
I'm not gonna make it 'til I turn around and face it alone, I know
That I can't keep on running, no I just can't keep on running away
So it stops today

This song applies to basically any problem you can have, not just things like heartbreak. She's basically saying you can't run from problems, they will not fix themselves, they will only get worse. You have to turn around and fight them head on.

The first time I heard it I was practically in tears, because I immidiately thought of my struggles with anoriexia. Especially since I've recently had a bit of a relapse into it. And I've always had to fight it on my own, it's part of why I've turned into such a tough person. So, thank you, Colbie. You're giving me so much motivation to beat it this time <3

This song's basically about someone who's trying to get over something, maybe a heartbreak. Whatever it is, it has hurt the person before, and she's just trying to get back on the ground. She doesn't wanna break down, she doesn't wanna be shaken with fear, she doesn't wanna fall down, she doesn't wanna hold the hand of the person who broke her heart, and she wants to be who she really was when she wasn't worried about anything at all.

She knows that running away from a problem won't solve it, but will make it worse. She also knows that the only way to get back up again is to fight her fears or whatever that's bringing her down and just face it. So she's gonna stop running today!

Although it's difficult to get back up after falling down, this strong girl persists on not needing any help because she believes that she ca get back up. She's gonna stay in control, she doesn't need a crutch/aid because it's getting old and it doesn't really help and she knows she can get there on her own.

To everyone: You can't run away from pain that is derived from your problems. Even if you try running and hiding, it'll find you no matter how far you run to hide. Face your problems bravely with confidence and there'll be an escape soon.

I agree. When I first heard this song it spoke to me about my anorexia.

The whole of the first verse could be taken as a metaphor but it could also be taken literally within the context of anorexia. Anorexia makes you shake, makes you collapse... ok, so it doesn't make you literally climb into holes, that one can be taken metaphorically but it makes you shake and collapse =]

"This crutch is getting old" - anorexia is like a crutch supporting me, it feels like it's keeping me stable but I'm sick to death of it. It's deffinately getting old.

I like this song, as it really reminds me to keep strong and fight anorexia. I'm almost recovered but there's still a little way to go. Fingers crossed I can do it!

Well in an interesting contrast to what you guys are saying :-) the song makes me think of overcoming obesity, which can be labeled as an eating disorder as well I suppose!

So many lines remind me of this!

Especially the line "I just want to be the girl I used to be when I was me and worry free" (like worried about what other people think and whatever)

and "I am gonna make it past the very start, It's always been my hardest part" because they say starting weight loss is the hardest part.

and also the whole "independency" feeling of the whole song, like you can do it by yourself, you don't need anybody else, only you matters! :-)
