The Outsiders

Let me start by saying I adore this song. Absolutely adore it. I think its about the release of resentment. He was in a conflict with another person, and then realizes he's forgotten what they were fighting for, and that in reality they're two of the same. He realizes that life is too short and he's the one making him self so vulnerable and miserable- like in the line "If we stop sinking, could we stand our ground?" in which i think he is saying that if he just stepped back and stopped concentrating sinking into life's conflicts, maybe he could let go. Maybe he could stand tall. This person, whoever he is resenting, really is no different from himself. They are both going through the exact same thing, so why not get through it together? They are both "outsiders." in the stanza "I'm not leaving without a fight I've got my holsters around my sides Just cause I'm wrong that don't make you right, It's not right. Oh, what are we fighting for?" He is mocking himself for being so caught up in being right- something so trivial compared to what he could be doing instead. My absolute favorite line is "Cause if you're not laughing, who is laughing now?" which I think means that thing he could be doing instead that I just mentioned is laughing, and who wouldn't choose laughter over hatred? The last stanza of the song, where he says "on the outside, you're free to roam, on the outside, we've found our home. On the outside, theres more to see. On the outside, we choose to be on the outside." He is saying that picking peace and acceptance over resentment is the best choice. And he is happy.

Maybe this song is talking about standing up for one's beliefs, but deep down questioning how well one could do so if the going got tough ("if this starts sinking, would we stand our ground?") It also sounds like the writer is saying that most people are against him since they come out with different beliefs, so he's come to turns that he's an outsider in the world--which Jesus said Christians would be. (since the world hates Me, it will also hate you..)

I think this song is about a person standing up for his beliefs but then kinda being pushed to the outside, and then meeting some friends along the way and realizing that they aren't alone like when at the end it goes "On the outside your free to roam, on the outside we found their home." " Also, like how people may feel like they are alone in the world and may feel like an outsider there are others like them so it's really like a group of outsiders not just one person.

I actually saw a this song put to clips of the movie "The Outsiders" and the tagline for that movie actually is "They grew up on the outside of society. They weren't looking for a fight. They were looking to belong."

Basically the same meaning as Jesus Freak by DC Talk. not so blatantly obvious, but yea. The are on the "outside", lookin in a different direction, which is towards Christ. They aren't gonna be like the secular world
