Bad Body Double Lyrics
She pops into the bathroom,
Just after a shower and she,
Plays with my make up and creams,
Keeps trying to look like me.
And goes through the motions posing this way and that,
Holding it in,
And if it makes you feel better,
Then knock yourself out
Say hi there to my bad body double.
This is my bad body double trouble.
Oh no.
Bad body Double.
I've got bad body double trouble.
Oh she's trouble.
Oh she's trouble.
She's trouble
Yeah yeah.
Sometimes all I want is to lose her or shake her,
In a bar or the gym for five minutes.
It feels so good to be back on my own self again.
Can get quite confusing.
We look very similar except she's got some greys,
And a little extra weight on the sides,
and dimpy thighs,
I hear that stuffs a bitch to get rid of.
No no not now.
We're having quite an intimate personal moment, (not now)
Could you maybe come at a slightly less awful time?
As you can see I've got someone quite nice here with me,
Can't we just be left alone?
Guess that's a no then...
Seeing as you're still here.
Seeing as you're still here.
Here!
It's not me, no,
It's my bad body double.
I've got bad body double trouble
Oh no.
My bad body double.
I've got bad body double trouble.
AAAAH!!!
Bad body double.
I've got bad body double trouble.
Oh dear.
My bad body double.
I've got bad body double trouble.
She's trouble.
She's trouble.
She's trouble.
Yeah yeah yeah.
She's trouble.
She's trouble.
She's trouble.
Yeah yeah right there.
Can't shake her,
Can't shake her,
Can't shake her,
Can't shake her.
Every where I go,
Every where I go, go
x2
Say hi there to my bad body double.
To my bad bad bad bad body double.
Bad body double.
She's trouble.
I can't shake her,
Oh I hate her,
I hate her.
I'm a hate her,
I'm a hate her,
I'm a hate her.
She's every where I go
I'm gonna get rid you once and for all
Gonna roll you out oh a pilates rubber ball
Sweat and step up the pace and the gradient.
Starting tomorrrow -
I am your nemesis!

I love the way this song explores the idea of having a side of yourself that you hate. I also love the resolve she has to do away with it! Inspiring and relatable! Love her new album xo
I think the ??? is "Sometimes I manage to lose her or shake her"
But I'm not 100% :)
I think this about having another side of yourself that you really don't like.
The line is "Sometimes all I want is to lose her or shake her." Amazing song, off of an absolute dream of an album. My fear before Ellipse was posted on Imogen's myspace was that the new album wouldn't measure up to her previous work, but if anything it's even better. This woman is my goddess. :)

I also think that this song is about a side of yourself that you don't like, possibly hate or despise.
I love the way she describes it all. I think we all have a 'bad body double' of sorts, or at least had one at some point.
My favorite part is when she describes what her double looks like. It's so specific.
I grinned when I heard this - I thought I was the only nutter who had an "image" of themselves that was slightly off from the real thing. It doesn't matter if I'm barely over a foot, my legs are really much longer... and of course I'm at least 15 pounds lighter than that person. Really, really...
At the end you resign to yourself that it really might just be you in the mirror. So you plan on setting it right -- tomorrow. You're only human after all ;)
And the line is,
"Sometimes I manage to lose her, shake her, At a bar, in the gym for five minutes..."
And
"We look face similar, except she's got some greys..."
Also
"Say hi there To my bad bad bad bad body double She's trouble, mm... I can't shake her And I hate her, I hate her I'm a hater, I'm a hater, I'm a hater. She's everywhere I go!!!"
And the end:
"I'm gonna get rid you once and for all Gonna roll you out oh a pilates rubber ball Sweat and step up the pace and the gradient. Starting tomorrrow - I am your nemesis!"
Barely over 5 foot... sorry, I was tired.
Barely over 5 foot... sorry, I was tired.
The song is clearly about insecurity and self esteem issues. She personifies these qualities as if they are another person trying to steal her identity trying to weasel their way into her life at the most inopportune times.
When I first listened to this song I seriously thought she was talking about her period (Menstrual cycle). It made the song 10x more funnier for me. I enjoy Imogen Heap's music and respect her as an artist but my mind keeps on thinking about women's menstrual cycles when I listen to this song. It doesn't help that that about 2 minutes into the song, she kinda screams. Lol!
I agree that it's about a part of yourself that you don't like and want to get rid of. Gemini's get a bad rap for having multiple personalities and yes - we do - and yes, we do want to get rid of some of our more self-destructive personalities. Everyone has a side of themselves that they don't like and want to get rid of however...
I just saw her in concert last night. Before she performed this song, she talked about how as she's getting older, she's unsatisfied with how her appearance is gradually changing.
"No! That's not me! That's someone who looks a whole lot like me, but that's not me!"
This is a hilarious song in my eyes. It's so true for SO many people. They use commercial products to keep their "beauty" even though everyone is beautiful. ANYWAYS this bad body double is the person that everyone has. She is who we are when we're home alone in our sweat pants not caring about what we look like. Of course she disappears as soon as someone else comes into the room. She is aging when you're supposed to, you can tell from her "greys" and she's putting on more weight as you. No matter what, you deny that that's you. This is because she isn't you in a sense. She is the plain, wonderful, beautiful you. You just don't realize it.
I think the "bad body double" is a feeling of inadequacy, especially in regards to self-image. :) So the song's lyrics talk about, like, a personification of that feeling and how it hinders one's ability to feel at peace and whatever.
