Pine For Cedars Lyrics
She might be wearing a green chemise
And a hat that she bought 'cause it matches her jeans
And the water she drinks well it comes from a stream
By the house she might win in that hospital lottery
And I might be stumbling and cursing them all
When she picks me up from the place that we both call disaster relief
For the rent must be paid by the first of the month
Or in my case, 15th
This is good as far as I can tell
It's still heavy as hell when it's good
And I do like the road
But I'd be better at home
I will pine for the oak streets
And pine for the cedars and you
Been around I suppose
I have chatted and chewed
I have lugged my guitar to the nice cafe blues
And when I come home I am coming home to this street and these avenues
This is good but as far as I can tell
It's still heavy as hell when it's good
And I do like the road
But I'd be better at home
I will pine for the oak streets
And pine for the cedars and you
And a hat that she bought 'cause it matches her jeans
And the water she drinks well it comes from a stream
By the house she might win in that hospital lottery
When she picks me up from the place that we both call disaster relief
For the rent must be paid by the first of the month
Or in my case, 15th
It's still heavy as hell when it's good
And I do like the road
But I'd be better at home
I will pine for the oak streets
And pine for the cedars and you
I have chatted and chewed
I have lugged my guitar to the nice cafe blues
And when I come home I am coming home to this street and these avenues
It's still heavy as hell when it's good
And I do like the road
But I'd be better at home
I will pine for the oak streets
And pine for the cedars and you

This song is about feeling at home in Vancouver. Dan is from Vancouver and mentions it in many of his songs. It seems to me that although he enjoys touring with his music, he knows that he wants to be at home with his girl, house, and city around him.
building off of the previous comment, this song is very much an ode to vancouver, but specifically the main street neighbourhood. that said, "been around" refers to the three bean around the world cafes along main st, followed by slickety jim's chat and chew diner on main and 18th and the nice cafe on main and 8th. he really emphasizes "lugged", but i'm not sure about that one. and given the whole 'pining' for cedars and oak (neighbouring street to main) and all that.. really, the whole thing is a big extended play on words. just great. love dan mangan.
A+ song. Is there a Cedar st? Maybe it's actual cedars in Stanley Park or something
