Kaufman's Ballad Lyrics

clouds covered stars
and hide their homes from flickering

trunk of our car
an angel who has lost his wings

and he will shine
tonight

blueberry tree
the prophet who interprets dreams

lay at his feet
an angel soaked in gasoline

and he will shine
tonight

smoke starts to clear
clouds refuse to disappear

dark desert night
as fire is our only light

a fallen angel
burn out bright
amongst the sands
that took his life

and flames right down
about to die
pyres putting up a fight

we had no choice
we had to try
we had no choice
we had to try
we had no choice
we had to try

Cover art for Kaufman's Ballad lyrics by Megafaun

This is about Phil Kaufman, Gram Parson's manager who stole his body and burnt it in Joshua Tree National Monument. Gram Parsons was in the Byrds and many other famous Rock Bands in the 1960's

@mrjk Thank you. These lyrics have been driving me nuts for years. I read all sorts of horrible, portentous meaning into them about lynching, cruelty, cowardice, madness and lost souls. Good to know that it's really about greatness in a time of greatness.
