Dancin', Shaggin' on the Boulevard Lyrics

Well, the Magic Attic's where the music rolls
And the Army Navy's got ol' Jackie soul
Down on Peaches' Corner, there are good ol' boys
And the Mother Fletchers makin' lots of noises

They're dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

Well, the Tams are playing at the Port o' Call
And the Drifters underneath the Boardwalk
At the Spanish Galleon and Ol' Fat Jacks
Jukebox playin' and the place is packed

You bet they're dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
You know they're dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

Got the top down and the traffic's slow
And it's sun fun week and we all go
Where the girls are sunning and looking good
Well, I never met 'em but I wish I could

And we'd go dancin' and shaggin' on the boulevard
We'd go dancin' and shaggin' on the boulevard

Well, the Embers singing up on Ocean Drive
And the Castaways are getting loud tonight
At the Electric Circus, they all getting down
And the Carousel's spinning round and round

See them dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
I see 'em dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

Well, I'm hanging out down at Sloppy Joe's
And they may doze but they never close
And the Bama Boys at the Bowery
Where they can't dance but they play for free

But they like dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
They know dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
They wrote dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Shaggin' on the boulevard
Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard
Dancin', shaggin' on the boulevard

Jackie Soul was a class act. I commend Alabama for mentioning Jackie in the song Shagging on the Blvd. In 1969, my uncle Lee took me to a honky-tonk called "Bears Den" in Burke County, NC. Jackie Soul was fronting for a band. He was only a few inches too tall to be considered a midget. He always dressed in a 3-piece suit with lots of gold jewelry, rings on every finger, hair emaculent and top notch singer-entertainer. Back in 1969 the average worker made around $250 a month. For the owner of Bears Den Jackie was pulling 200 people that paid a cover charge of $2 each. Club owners appreciated Jackie and he sang 3 Night's a week. Not sure how much they paid him. I was 12 years old the first time I saw and heard him sing. I remember after Jackie finish a set of music the club owner took him to the Blackjack room where they had Jackie a box to stand on to play Blackjack. He loved to gamble and I never seen him lose. Not 100% sure, but believe the band was "Hokus Pokùs".

Also, Jackie Soul was part of a two-piece Act that traveled around calling Jackie & Geno", they covered any song request asked by an audience member. Geno was also a Dwarf and played a fender stratocaster. Both would entertain the socks off their audiences. Geno Davidson was a stellar musician and singer. He also played a pedal steel guitar that was Taylor-Made by a Luthier from Asheville, NC named Len Netherton.
