I think that this song is about getting through a hard time in your life.

I relate to this song on a very personal level. I broke up with my boyfriend of 3 years a few months ago - it just wasn't working, even though we both loved each other so much. I started seeing another guy soon after I ended things with my boyfriend, and no matter how hard I tried to commit to this new guy, I just couldn't seem to get over my boyfriend completely. He moved to another city after we broke up, which made things even harder to accept in a way. The new guy I started seeing couldn't deal with me still being in love with my ex, so he ended things with me. I relate to these lyrics because they're telling you to be strong, and have faith in your ability to get through the hard times. I especially like the lines:

"Thinking of him each day When he is miles away You know it won't serve you well It's better for time to tell

You can't please somebody, can't please somebody else Until you learn to look after yourself You can't be somebody, can't be somebody else You've learned your lesson, put in on the shelf"

They remind me that things are over with me and my ex, and if I really want to move on and be happy with this new guy then I'm going to have to learn to cope with the pain and get over him, before I can be a new person and commit to someone else. The lines just fit perfectly with my situation... this song means a lot to me.

i can really relate to atikin123's comment. i find this song very therapeutic :) in fact, the whole album has been my best friend in overcoming a very hard situation. it's really really amazing :)

Alot of Sarah's music has been really theraputic for me also. This song, and 'for you' as well are standouts. It really helps me to hold faith that someday we WILL be together, and that in that time all i can do is learn to be myself and treat myself well, and leave the rest to time. Amazing song lyrics. I wish i could just hug her! :)
