Hotel California (Eagles cover) Lyrics
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself
'This could be heaven or this could be Hell
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor
I thought I heard them say
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel California
Any time of year (any time of year) you can find it here
Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget
So I called up the Captain
'Please bring me my wine
He said, "we haven't had that spirit here since nineteen sixty-nine
And still those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say"
Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
They livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise), bring your alibis
Mirrors on the ceiling
The pink champagne on ice
And she said, 'we are all just prisoners here, of our own device
And in the master's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
'Relax' said the night man
'We are programmed to receive
You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave!
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air

silversunlove, you say you THINK, of course it's a cover from The Eagles
hmm... the killers do some awesome covers... romeo and juliet, shadowplay....
but in this case, well... i think there are some songs that just dont need to be covered :(
i wish they would cover "What Ever Happened" by The Strokes.
I love the Killers, and I love the Eagles, but listening to this just makes me want to hear the real Eagles version and then listen to a real Killers song. It was almost a good cover, but the brassy instrumentals made it sound way too Latin, and that totally killed it.
they are called the killers, so thats what they did to the song

I think this song is about a drug addiction...perhaps I'm wrong, but the partyers represent the glamourous side of drugs, and the last verse could be about how a junkie panicks and tries to quit, but can't...otherwise I have no clue about this song, could anybody enlighten me ? Also, sorry if my English isn't really good, I'm French and still learning, so...:)
yes check out anytime you want but you can never leave, heroin addiction checking out is the knod and the fact that heroin addiction is forever. could be heaven...this is the fact that its the best feeling and take u to a wonderful place, but there is a dark side that is horrible. "lit the candle" is to heat the spoon "show me the way" either how to do it or less literal the way to euphoria. "Some dance to remember...forget" one does heroin to leave this world or to stay in a place that...

"lit the candle" is to heat the spoon "show me the way" either how to do it or less literal the way to euphoria. "Some dance to remember...forget" one does heroin to leave this world or to stay in a place that was wo0nderful at one time. havent had that spirit here since 1969, 1969 the end of the summer of love and when people were just doing drugs to get high not to open the doors of perception. the 70s were just addiction and partying to get high. there are documentary's on this period. "stabbing with the steely knife" thats the needle, and "it cant kills the beast", which is what one is trying to escape from. i started with the last lyric, but thats how I see it and I think im spot on. I mean its pretty cut and dry, its not hidden to deeply in the lyrics, its blatant wouldnt you say. I have read some pretty ridiculous interpretations thats for sure

this song is about addiction to drugs. this could be heaven or this could be hell: it seems great, but you'll later find out, its hell in disguise. we are all prisoners here of our own device: YOU get in to frugs, and lock yourself in. stab it with their steely knives: desperate to regain that feeling, you inject yourself with powerful drugs, but you can't kill the beast, which is the need for the drugs. "some dance to remembers, some dance to forget" you can do drugs to try to stay in 'the good times' or try to forget a traumatic experience you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave you can try to quit, but eventually you will fail.
