Clipping Lyrics

Feeling overload,
Carrying bottled skies around.
I've been drowning all along,
Wearing out in a faltered sea,
And I give up.

Common sense failed again,
Meddling in a foreign scene, foreign dream.
Time won’t spare another sun,
Daring me with another choice,
Another choice.

Anymore, I don't know who to fight anymore,
I don't know what is right anymore, anymore.
[x2

Anymore, I don't know how to feel anymore,
I don't know what is real anymore, anymore.

Anymore, I don't know who to fight anymore,
I don't know what is right anymore, anymore.

Anymore, I don't know how to feel anymore,
I don't know what is real anymore, anymore.

Anymore, I don't know who to trust anymore,
I don't know what I want anymore, anymore.

Anymore, I don't know who to blame anymore,
I don't know what to say anymore,
I don't know what I want anymore.

Hey, hey, I just don't know anymore. [x2

Anymore, I don't know who to fight anymore,
I don't know what is right anymore, anymore.

Audio "clipping" put simply: when the audio signal sent to the speaker exceeds the speaker's voltage capabilities. It gets "overloaded". The result is audio distortion.

It's a very intelligent metaphor for a song title, I think, and the comparison is clear when you look at the lyrics: "Feeling overload ... drowning all along ... wearing out ... I give up ... common sense failed again ... Time won't spare another sun, daring me with another choice ... I don't know who to fight anymore, I don't know what is right anymore..."

It's a picture of someone who's completely overwhelmed by life and feels like they're "drowning," they always make all the wrong choices and they feel like they can't go on. They feel like they "just don't know (about anything) anymore."

It's not really a deep meaning to the song, but the music is just beyond amazing.

This song is about the "struggling" of life... I see a man at the end of his rope.. giving up on all hope... I love how it is titled Clipping... Which is the occurance of too much ampage coming through a speaker causing distortion... Clever lyrics Paul...

sounds like linkin park. This is Krishnamurti's philosophy about life. "I don't know" is a great start. Seeing without the image. etc. Good job Mute!

This song is amazing. So intense, and dark, and beautiful. This is a pretty dark album for Mute Math.

mushyman5, I concur. This song is perfect for driving in rain. The piano in the background matches so well with the raindrops.

Yes i Agree with you!

Wow. Vulnerable.

What seems like a simple set of phrases in Clipping is actually what makes it profound. Sometimes a songwriter captures the inner thought-life of the mind with crystal clear articulation, and I think that’s what Paul Meany did here. So many of us have had this thought and probably even said it at one time or another. But we only admitted it to ourselves, and we didn’t think saying “I just don’t know anymore” was special. Paul brings the dark, inner soul-searching of “I don’t know how to feel anymore / I don’t know what is real anymore” to the surface and screams it out so loud we can finally hear ourselves. Everybody thinks it. But until this song, we didn’t know it was possible or OK to reveal this with such blunt honesty.

I’m not a piano player but it seems to me the arpeggios he is playing underneath the chorus are incredibly difficult to sing over, especially given their speed. Props to the entire band for creating this beautiful anthem. Such complexity and skill with each instrument. Thank you, Mutemath, for helping us reach a profound freedom of expression in this song.

i feel like the words of this song don't do the music justice. creative arrangement, generic lyrics :[

haha thats exactly how i feel about Electrify... i guess the same applies here, though not as bad imo... definitely a great arrangement though. i love the piano loop and the strings. very experimental, which this album lacks in some places

These lyrics aren't really that generic... sometimes the delivery of said lyrics brings it home even more. I think this song has a lot of weight to it, and it's great.
