History Lesson Part II Lyrics

Our band could be your life
Real names'd be proof
Me and Tad Kubler we played together for years
Punk rock changed our lives

I learned punk rock in Minneapolis
We'd take the bus in from Edina
We were fucking corndogs
We'd get high and we'd go stage dive

Hey Mr. Narrator
This is Bob Dylan to me
These songs could be my story
I am that soldier boy

Our band was scientist rock
And I was Dave Pirner and Paul Westerberg
Joe Strummer and D. Boon
Me and Tad Kubler playing guitar

This is, of course, technically a Minutemen cover, but the lyrics are markedly different from the original version--though the lines about Joe Strummer and Bob Dylan are in the Minutemen version too. I guess the most interesting thing about this song is how well the way THS presents themselves aligns with how the Minutemen did.

What else, uh... Westerburg and Pirner (whose name is misspelled in the lyrics) are the lead singers of The Replacements and Soul Asylum, respectively. And Craig Finn is from Edina, not Medina; so that's presumably an error as well.

Yeah, Pirner was an accident, It is Westerberg, not burg. The (M)Edina was an accident as well, I dunno how I messed that up, my uncle lives there.
