Reading Heaney to Me Lyrics

The night tumbles on us
With gentle pause
The cars and the chaos
And muted purr

The couch and the kettle
A call to arms
Your arms to be exact
They bring me home

I sit still
I hold my tongue
Just use your voice
And heaney's words
Dig your way through to my heart
Plant your flag and set up camp
I've shut my eyes
I've closed the blinds
Turn the phones and nightlights off
Just you and me and naturalists
Held with tender hands and mouth
The storm's on the island
Are just whispers now
I melt with the warm words
And your coffee tones
The dark twisted creatures
Can't find us here
Your hand on my forehead
Is the softest vice

I sit still
I hold my tongue
Just use your voice
And heaney's words
Dig your way through to my heart
Plant your flag and set up camp
I've shut my eyes
I've closed the blinds
Turn the phones and nightlights off
Just you and me and naturalists
Held with tender hands and mouth

Great song! No clue on the meaning though, I haven't read Heaney.

This is such a beautiful song. It's now one of my favourites. I think it's just about finding pure escape with the one you love. Personally, I think it's quite self explanotary. As for Heaney, he is an awesome writer. Thanks for posting these lyrics. I think my verse in the song is "Your hand on my forehead is the softest vice..." I love it.

My FAVOURITE verse in the song.

Gary just did a radio session and he played this song. Heaney was Gary's inspiration to start writing, so it's kind of his thank you song to him
