Holiday on the Moon Lyrics

You can't get a suntan on the moon!
(They say)
You can't get a suntan on the moon!

Thank you Mr. President,
For my holiday Sir,
(Thank you Sir...)
Thank you Mr. President,
For my holiday Sir,
I can't really say, that I wish you were here,
But thank you all the same, Sir...

I can't really say, that I wish you were here,
But thank you all the same, Sir,

Ahhhh, such a wonderful time, (x6)

I'm pretty sure you absolutely can get a suntan on the moon. Isn't that why the helmet visors are ultra-reflective?

It makes me think of when people don't like you where you work, or you're not good, they'll "promote" you to somewhere else just to get rid of you. Here's a free trip to the moon. On us. Go as soon as possible. I insist. Stay as long as you like.

My Interpretation

This is my first attempt at putting lyrics up for a song, so I hope they're mostly right. If not, try to help me fix them, please! :)

I think he's expressing one of my greater desires.

You can't change people and their ignorance. So lets just get away from them, somewhere they were they can't bother us. Like the moon.

Possibly a satire. Maybe thanking the pres. for destroying the Earth so the only place left is the moon

Then again it's Maynard, so only Maynard knows

For me, the first line “you can’t get a suntan on the moon” I imagine someone (a girl) questioning/realizing her partner has lied to her, (he) said he was somewhere else (the moon) yet he has a suntan. Assuming you don’t tan on the moon, this person may have been unfaithful and probably somewhere tropical on a secret vacation. Also keeping in mind the validity of landing on the moon (doesn’t look like he went even though that’s where he was supposed to go). “Thank you, Mr President” maynard’s voice sounds a little more female here (reminds me of Marilyn Monroe singing Happy Birthday, Mr President when there was reported infidelity or a fling between her and JFK) indicating more deception in the song. Thank you all the same-thank you for lying to me and all of this nonsense you’ve put me through/lead me to believe and still I got Nothing out of this relationship but heartache. “I wish I Could say I wish you were here” although it could be a Pink Floyd dark side of the moon reference, I would Say it sounds a little more like she is heartbroken and angry and part of her wishes this person was still around even though he hurt her and they did have good times, but she is now over him and feels like it was a complete and total waste of time. This may be waaaay off but this is what came to mind for me when I thought about the lyrics. Never mind our current president right now (really, the entire world) has us all on “holiday” for a virus that is not as deadly as they’ve made us believe-lots of lies and deception and more to be exposed soon I’m sure... so this song can apply here as well to me. Extended quarantine....ah, such a wonderful time!! thanks for reading! :-)
